Problem with this is, they also have to make changes based on their country.

SE had to end the Mog Bonanza due to European and/Canadian gambling laws. While gambling in Japan isn't THAT taboo (Pachinko for example) going international, they just can't do it. So while they need to "cater to everyone they support" their dev team and primary holders are in Japan, they're based in Japan and have to abide by Japanese rules, much like Blizzard has to abide by American laws even if they have support in other countries.

So it is strictly prohibited to address same-sex marriages in a videogame in Japan? But it's fine to design sex games, right? ♪

And how many of those Eroge are localized and sold in major American retailers? I'll be surprised if you can list even 2 shops that aren't mom&pop styled. There's a difference between making certain types of games in their country and localizing and selling it to another country. It's not completely taboo to address it, but XIV is being supported in America, which is still flipflop on the whole subject and seem to go after video games the most.

It is a virtual ceremony that pertains only to the game world and has no official bearing in the real world.
Likewise the problems with laws is, Commander Shepard banging Liara wasn't real either yet it pissed people off enough to try to pass stricter laws on game development.

This. I find it hard to take the discussion of society and politics seriously in this context.

Plus, is just plain off-topic and could get the thread locked.

Blizzard also has to edit their games in china in order to respect their culture (The undead is taboo in China) and thus BLIZZARD had to edit the undead models that resemble skeletons to appeal to the Chinese audience because of different cultures.

I've been thinking about this for a while... actually SE didn't end Mog bonanza

    http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/gui...bon/index.html

As a matter of fact they had one just this year...

ahhh never mind just got more information this year was the last one they are holding due to the laws I correct myself on it.

however, though if I may point out one tiny little thing. that didn't stop SE from putting in Serendipity into FFXIII-2 Which has gambling in it.
