This is seriously the dumbest topic ever brought up on these forums, I hate whoever started it.

As facepalm-inducing as Rannie and Aster's verbal tennis game is, I think SE should just take the high road and not implement a marriage system, but give us the tools to host weddings entirely on our own. You can then have hetero weddings, gay weddings, cross-faction weddings and so on without pissing anyone off or making anyone feel left out.
Just give us background and source material to work with. I'm talking ring engraving abilities for Goldsmiths, wedding dress, tuxedo, formal dress, formal suit recipies for tailors, Lodestone articles explaining how weddings are run in the three nations (+ Ishgard, too), different types of weddings vows (based on weapon type or job like FFXI does) and so on.
I've attended plenty of weddings in WoW (of all kinds), and it's worked like a charm so...why not here as well? I mean, who knows? It might even give birth to a "Bridezillas: FFXIV Edition" machinima video somewhere down the line.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

It would be fun if weddings were a co-operative experience for not only those involved but for their friends and LS as well. But I understand not every couple will have an active LS willing to do a bunch of stuff for them.
Regardless, now I need to get my fiance' to start playing again! ._.
All I have to say is: http://youtu.be/yB1QkEvdsgM?t=25s
I want a sig like that! It's so 'metal'! XD
Well an MMORPG is suppoooooooose to emulate life and fantasy while playing the role of your own, so why not play through the steps as if you were marrying in fantasy life? It's suppoooooooooose to be either time consuming & expensive or quick & "Vegas-cheap". There should be a choice in 14 this time around
... and only then, after battling to the death through hoards of beast and high leveled enemies will thou be wedded! :Q

I don't know I would hope a person has friends in the game not an active Ls to be able to do the events. I have other friends in other links shells and if they decided to get married in the game then I would be very honored if they invited me to the wedding.

This is a fine idea if SE can not or will not include all desired coupling. Allow they players to run the shows and give them the tools and resources to make it happen. Add an church organ and allow a player to manipulate it. Give crafters a hand in facilitating the items. Also add some "effects" control box to have someone supply graphical effetcs during the wedding. And perhaps supply some 2 person Emotes capable of being used in the cathedral.
If there are enough ways and options for players to team up and supply an ecellent wedding you may soon see...

One of my best friends married his wife in a player-run ceremony. Both of them had rolled female night elves. Interesting times. They even used the WoW RP addons to give themselves the title "Mrs." and both chose to use my buddy's character's last name. *hint hint, SE*That awkward moment when you as a dude picked a girl and so did your girlfriend...
It's not really same sex marriage, but it would be in game.
I'd be pretty sad in this circumstance if I couldn't get married in game to the person I want just because I chose a girl character.
