Please devs, just ignore this post. Better yet, ignore the whole thread. Please devs do not ever add shadows to ninja when it gets added unless it is a high level ninja only ability. Also please limit dual wield to ninja only. Blink tanking is for people too lazy to learn how to mitigate damage properly on dedicated tank jobs. Before you all get your panties in a bunch I blink tanked as thief quite often in XI simply because I wasn't allowed to tank on paladin because "it's too much work for the healers"
Let's have ninja be the dps job it was meant to be.
Utsusemi: Ni, as per FFXI really would not be very useful. It definitely wouldn't break the game. FFXI was predicated on long, drawn out, single target fights. This meant that Utsusemi: Ni users could easily focus on a single target and keep their shadows up close to full time (if not full time). Meanwhile, FFXIV is predicated on large scale combat with a (actually to a detrimental level) focus on AoE attacks. Any reasonable number of shadows given by Utsusemi would be completely wiped within seconds, leaving the poor Ninja exposed with his piddling little hp pool as his only defense.
Different games call for different solutions, saying that Ninja was an overpowered tank in FFXI so it would break FFXIV is silly. I would actually propose that if Ninja was added ability for ability to FFXIV right now, it would be bordering on worthless; subpar damage and next to useless damage mitigation abilities in the face of constant AoEs and mobs of enemies.

Just give Ninja better use of their usable weapons, such as ninja stars and ninja scrolls, and it would balance out. Or, give it abilities that are forced evasion and AoE damage reduction.
There are plenty of possibilities to re-envision jobs to fit the current game structure.
My hangup is that currently existing classes will split into multiple jobs. Which is interesting constering weapons like Lance have a limited number of Jobs known for that main weapon. Litterally, the first and only job that really comes to nind for Lancer is Templar - which stems the possibility that these Jobs are going to meld classes into differing roles.
Think for a moment how Archer went to Bard, taking it from a primary ranged Damage Dealer role into a support role. I have a feeling when the next job set comes out for existing classes, they'll be different in the types of roles they are, in comparison to what we have.
That stirs the speculation quite a bit. Will Conjurer become Summoner? What will happen with Thamaturg's role? More importantly, how does it effect equipment flow?
I'm anxious to see what they will do, but I have no expectations, this system has a wide berth of possibilities.

No, no, I agree with everything you've said here. I was speaking specifically about the argument that ninja would be a terrible job to add because it broke FFXI. It's like comparing apples to oranges.Just give Ninja better use of their usable weapons, such as ninja stars and ninja scrolls, and it would balance out. Or, give it abilities that are forced evasion and AoE damage reduction.

Now this is how I want Ninja to be like. A mix between the two.
ninja magic jetsu etc with the hand signs and blood sacrifice and short katana sword with throwing weapons.
But before I can unlock them, I want them to have a home, a place and lore where they came from.
edit: and this time let me have throwing weapon skills

MOAR JOABS!!!Blue mage (Because there would be some amazing skills in this game to learn - they would have to introduce some way to use blue magic without MP, however)
Time mage (It could be soooo great if they made it right - haste, slow, demi, gravity, bind, float?, reflect, comet etc. and use daggers?)
Dark knight - we know it's coming, the only thing would be to please give it great sword AND scythe
Musketeer - fits the game well (don't know if it was duel gun or dual gun but 2 guns would be great.. very different and interesting)
Just moar joabs!

i can see why ninja broke xi but i cant really see it in xiv if SE does it right when its finally added. it would be a great job to add as long as SE doesnt give it the ability to tank like it did in xi (im not saying it shouldnt have good eva stats and shadows) but i rather ninja be the job hidden so to say. STEALTH.
i dont wanna say it should be a back line job (like red mage) but rather one that attacks an enemy in any direction almost from any range with a wide variety of abilites and skills. when most ppl think of a ninja its someone that attacks from the shadows in any direction, hidden from the enemy causing confusing & fustration using a wide skillset of tactics/abilities/weapons etc not someone that stands in the open facing enemy head on.
I along with some others would not prefer it to be a tank class, since pld is still broken(still needing alot of improvements) and warrior which is pretty much set, the last thing we need is another tank that will most likely put final nail in coffin for pld but also possibly put war out of bussiness tank wise.
i would rather have dancer as the frontline dd evasion tank class/job rather then ninja. dancer could deal damage build tp to do weapon skill or abilties like waltz or jig etc. maybe even the jigs and waltz could have buff or debuff effects to support allies up close or to bring down the enemy.
