Why does there have to be a death penalty that either breaks your gear or de-levels you? Does it really have to be a pain in the ass?

well with the way people complain about it it seems so and quite frankly i'd rather get the breaking of the gear over the losing exp or deleveling. Also just to let you know this is a lot better too because also in Diablo and Nexus the Kingdom of Winds MMO when you died you lost exp as well... so which would you rather have a
1: repair bill of around 100k or less
or
2: loss of exp, deleveling, and a repair bill of that amount.
you only have one choice mind you ^_^
pretty much in all the mmo's i've played there's been some sort of death penalty. this one isn't as harsh as the others.

A huge THANK YOU!!!! For FINALLY selling the Meteor Survivor Polo on the store. AND a huge thanks to my friend who bought it for me while he was at Fan Fest!!! YES I finally have my POLO!!!
It takes 10 deaths to go from 100-0 durability, losing durability the natural way is a very slow process and takes quite a bit to reach. The issue you are having is either you are dying to much or you wait til the last moment to get your gear repaired. If repairing gear is such an issue then you should consider putting up a repair request when you are under 50% rather then when everything is broken. Also if you are in a heavily populated area it doesn't hurt to /shout that you need repair more often then not people will run over to repair your gear if you are seeking for repairs.
Heck just be grateful gear doesn't actually break at 0% XD there are a lot fo old MMOs that used that mechanic back in the 90's all we gotta deal with is either spending 5k a piece to repair it to 99% or take the time to find others to repair it for you. Maybe you aren't part of a LS, it's easy enough to get gear repaired if you are in a somewhat populated LS and just take a second to ask, people in LS are usually willing to help one another in that manner XD so perhaps you just need to find a group that has more crafters in it.
Not to mention that if you already have the DM, it's only 6-6.5K to repair a full set.

I played XI. I think i have gotten to know both death systems enough to know losing an XP surplus is much better than repairing gear.well with the way people complain about it it seems so and quite frankly i'd rather get the breaking of the gear over the losing exp or deleveling. dont wanna pay 5k a piece of gear, put it up for repair. if you put in in your bazar and put it for 1gil no one will repair it.
So you think there should be no penalty for dieing?
People need to have a reason to avoid death...if there's no penalty...the fear factor of dieing is pretty non-existent.
I'll take gear damage over xp loss any day. I dont particularly LIKE gear damage, but that's why I focus on staying alive. Yes, gear becomes damaged no matter what, but it's a weapon. In real life, would you have a sword all shiny and new, then use it a million times and still have it as shiny and new?
I may not love it...but for some reason I enjoy repairing my own weapons when I can.
Oh and guess what? Usually, when I go into primal runs, there's almost always another member who can repair at least some of my gear. So if I have gear that I cant personally repair, finding others to repair it hasnt proved particularly difficult to me.
But I guess that's just me and not you. So yeah, let's remove gear damage. Don't bring in xp loss for death either. That way if I die, no biggie~ just raise/return and try again. As a matter of fact, Let's remove weakness while we're at it. That's also a pain in the ass, isn't it?
Sorry...I feel like being bitchy right now.

OP you're complaining about 5k npc repairs? That's pennies in this game. You should be able to make millions, even without a craft leveled. Also the rate that gear degrades is so slow that you're making repairs once, maybe twice a week....
