    One of the features they are trying to have is that craftables will be as good or better than what items drop from chests/etc. If this changed such that U/U items could be melded, then they would have to be downgraded in potency otherwise craftable items could not compete.

    Doesn't that make U/U gear worthless to farm? Although I know what you are getting at, it doesn't make sense.

    They have to work hard to keep the types of equipment you get different enough to give both values. For example, if gold coffers from dungeons dropped Int +14 rings, why would anyone care? Even if it was Int +17 no one would care. So they do not go for something as simple as that. They plant things that are different but still of value.

    Definitely, it shall be very useful to recycle U/U gear into materia instead of simply throwing it away :/.
