wIN 7 64- FFXIV not working Plz help.

    Hello all,
    Any help would be great.

    First post,-

I downloaded the latest patch on tuesday april 5th. It installed fine, I was able to enter my username, pw, and security token. But then when I go to press the play button, the game stops. I never even get to see the lobby. A small box appears and says ffxiv has stopped working. there is no error code. I system restored to before the install of the ffxiv driver, and reinstalled it. downloaded the latest video drivers, installed them... then reset. then launched the ffxiv and got the same message.

Iknow its not my internet, my computer is up and running great, and was running ffxiv up to and before this patch.
Every other game I have works fine. and others from my linkshell were east coast, and logged in so the servers were up.

    So Im asking here,

    Thanks in advance.

    System spec.
    win 7 64b
    Ftw3 evga mobo.
    quad core i7 920
    12gb ram
    gtx480 x1

It sounds like you've already gone through the majority of basic troubleshooting steps, so there isn't a whole lot of advice I can offer you. Most of this will be a shot in the dark.

-When you install your video drivers, make sure that you manually uninstall the old ones and then run driversweeper inbetween.

    -Run CCleaner on your registry

    -Run the game as administrator

-Set your internet explorer security settings to low or medium

-Lower your FFXIV config graphics settings

-Last but not least, re-install FFXIV

Does the error happen as soon as you press the play button, or does the game start to load first?

Run FFXIV config. Make sure the resolution setting is the same or lower than your current desktop resolution.

yea the res is low, im only running 1024x768 to make the display large enough to view comfortably on my 60 inch dlp from 10 feet away. the desktop is set to 1920x1080.

    ---
OMG it worked.!!! so the new patch requires that the game res and desktop res are identical?! thats lame... I DONT WANT TO SIT 2 FEET FROM THAT SCREEN!!!

Thanks dude, as long as its workin its better than nothin.

I tested it and had no problems running the game at a different resolution than my desktop. However, the fact that you're playing on a TV probably makes some sort of difference.

Jesus... 12 gb ram lol sounds like overkill to me.

I think i had a simmilar problem but it somehow got fixed by updating the "GPU" drivers.
Now...im using ATI Radeon 5830, catalyst. (wich i had to upgrade)

So...im not sure about your GTX, but try upgrading GFX card drivers.

Depending on the TV, if you are not running in the TV's native resolution and especially if you are not running in the TV's native aspect ratio, the image may "reset" a couple times - which in full screen FFXIV means that it may think you have had a pop-up or hit alt-tab, and crash.

As for playing 10 feet away, I do the same on my 42" TV some times. The best solution I have found is to play in full 1080p, which is the TVs native resolution, but to change the font to a larger font in the external configuration tool. It should be noted that some people have reported various crashes caused by changing the font, and also issues with incomplete quests. I personally have not experienced this, but it is a possibility.

As a side note, and off subject regarding the fonts, has anyone investigated whether or not font related crashes and failures are at all tied to the type/format of the font? Maybe it is an issue of TrueType v. ClearType v. OpenType...
