    I am going to make a wild guess. But when mounted, you are a completely different entiety that does not works at all the same way your on-foot self does, and is not even related to class or ability setups to begin with.

    I would have guessed the same thing. It might just be something do with the current state of the character, something like mounting a chocobo assigns the character a specific class that establishes the chocobo animation on top of multiplying the speed. If there was a different class for the character that is assigned during mounting (by class I mean a set of code that is standardized to be used for different enitites) then all of the code that was created pre-chocobo might not be existent for the 'chocobo' class of code. You might think, why not just copy and paste that code then? If only it was that easy.
    This of course is just pure speculation.
