something tells me you didn't play 11 when it first released. JP releasedI've played since release, yet I've never found anything to be "hard" or "challenging". That's what was so mystic about 11, you had to team up and work together efficiently. Exp parties weren't mindless circlejerks like they are on here in xiv. At least exp took some damn coordination, skill, or setup to be successful in 11. Moreover, leveling took you to new zones, new mobs, awesome places to see (or offered NMs of all levels to get some neat gear from), setups changed, new abilities became vital or old ones could become less effective. XIV gives you freaking glowing purple lights to hold your damn hand while you combo. wooooo. Where's the thought, the challenge? Everything is handed to us on here.
You would be amazed at how hard it was to teach some people. I spent alot of time in the jungle and met alot of people...some were not the sharpest tools in the shed. Hell some people still though strafing helped evasions...oh my.

Why not just abolish lvls completely if they are just going to turn into a burn fest as they are now in both xi and xiv.
I dont get why SE is holding onto the leveling system so closely if they are just going to make it a speed run and have nothing in between 1-50 but burning. Makes 0 sense to me. Sounds more like they are making lvling more a inconvenience than anything. And if XI is any indication the rmt will just move from burning leves to making burn pts and charging by the hour for it.

Not that I think it will or ever could happen but I could see a version of XIV where gear has no level requirement and skills are bought and or learned through combat akin to skill ups. Evidence of this already exists, jobs learn their abilities through quests and back in the day guild marks were used to purchase some abilities.

Level 50 is a merit in this game? Since when? The problem is this destroys the possibility of building a real meritocracy, which to my eyes appears as the only option to build a solid game community in which mutual respect works as a coalescing agent. "If you like grinding, go grind raptors until you're blue, but don't impose your play style on the rest of us" is NOT a valid response, nor a strong argument. It ignores that bragging-rights and collective competitiveness stand at the center of the magnet that brings us here. We need equalizers in game structures; imagine for a second how fair (or not) it would feel for one team in a soccer match to play within the game's strictures, while the other team were allowed to use their hands to lead the ball, and to score from off-side positions. Games tie our hands to make us overcome hurdles (or they make us jump in sack bags, or force us to run holding eggs on a spoon balanced precariously by our teeth and lip muscles).
How would your summer-BBQ audience appreciate your grabbing the egg with your hand, spitting the spoon and running all the way to the finish line? Or if you removed your blindfold to give the donkey its tail back, while the rest of your co-competitors wandered aimlessly towards the opposite wall? MMOs are not exceptions to any of this. Or they shouldn't be.

it works by point to point communication between the motherboard and the HDD/SDD for faster transfer of information.
but seriously you'd be amazed by the amount of people in XI that screwed up Sneak Attack+Trick Attack Combo...id be lying if i said i failed it a few times or more before i really got the hang of it.

Trying to teach someone new what SATA was...so frustrating but so rewarding when you could get it right. I doubt people would stand for such awareness in something as minor as a exp party. People seemingly just want face-roll experiences and anything remotely challenging to be behind a locked gate instanced for their lesiure.
God forbid anything in the game is actually challenging without having a reward to dangle in someones face.
You can thank the Armoury system for this though. It really takes away from the whole class uniqueness and diversity. Though using a job does take away from that to some extent it will never be like playing a set role of a job as it was in FFXI unless they change certain things drastically in 2.0.
Personally I can say this about FFXI as well. I played FFXI since US release, yet I've never found anything to be "hard" or "challenging". Many will disagree but in my eyes it wasn't hard or challenging it was "time consuming" and "luck based" on finding a competent group of people who played during the same times as you did to complete said content. Though what others may consider hard I may not it all depends on how you view things.I've played since release, yet I've never found anything to be "hard" or "challenging". Are you seriously bickering about the combo lights? How is the most common feature in any video game considered holding your hand? It is simply a visual aid to help you utilize your skills which if the game didn't have them guess what? You know damn well everyone would be using some kind of mod or another like in XI to make those visual aids available. Though I will agree with you on the exp parties that it doesn't take a whole lot of coordination but at least it does take a decent tank and healer to make the part function effectively. Though leveling in FFXIV isn't anything like it was in FFXI and doesn't have the need to be so deep, you level 100 times faster. Challenge? There was no challenge in FFXI leveling, either you had competent players in your group or you didn't.

There is a slew of things I think cripple the game designers into making the most lack-luster content because of all the hoops they need to jump through to "Satisfy" the "Majority" of people on the forums/poll takers.
It's a shame that we probably don't see everyone who is playing currently take the polls I'd actually like to hear on what % of the playerbase actually responds to the player polls. I imagine the forums are near 100% attendance but I imagine a bunch of people who are happy with the game as is or have gripes miss out either because they don't pay attention to the splash screen or can't be bothered to fill out the form.
Although I would say if they are that lazy they shouldn't have a voice, but it would be a interesting bit of data none the less. Would also be nifty if we could see what players who are watching the game but not subscribed have to say. Obviously the people still paying/playing are going to be rather happy with how the game currently runs (Leveling speed and instanced content lovers) so the results will obviously be a tad skewed that direction. Most people who hit 50 everything and got bored left long ago with only a handfull of holdouts still playing and enjoying but have a different idea where the game should go.
I just think relying on the poll results too much is getting to peoples heads. Sure it's a nice statistic to throw out but it's funny when people just throw the numbers out and tell people to pretty much shut-up because we are a minority.

Indeed. I suggested a while ago (second poll i think) that SE added the polls ingame so the player could answer it w/o the need of coming to lodestone...Bay even replied that they were thinking about adding other ways to obtain feedback. There is a slew of things I think cripple the game designers into making the most lack-luster content because of all the hoops they need to jump through to "Satisfy" the "Majority" of people on the forums/poll takers.

Never added tho.
