Price fixers attacking price fixers. Oh mai!
I like the anonymity for my own self, but sometimes I wanna wring the neck of whatever idiot undercut a 40k item down to 10k in no seconds flat.
I very much enjoy the anonymity of the current system as we do not need any more griefing than there already is. As for undercutters, if you buy goods that you believe are priced under fair market value then you are part of the problem. You cannot maintain the moral high ground unless you buy only from those you find to be pricing things within fair market guidelines. That being said I believe a great many things are overpriced, I price items based on the cost it took to make as well as the rarity and a small mark up to ensure a sustainable profit. Some people price things 50x over what it cost them to make it and that is ridiculous.
But similar to gil sellers, the only reason they are in business is because people buy gil. The current system is not a blind auction and players have the choice to buy from whatever seller they choose. As such it is up to the buyers to support or not support undercutting in any economy.
Just your friendly neighborhood elezen
I would like an actual bidding/Buyout style auction house. Though majority of time people just use buyout you occasionally get some of the items you want from dropping bids on them.
By the way I hate the current anonymity of the current system. I want to know who I am buying stuff from not some stupid NPC name it really takes away from the community aspect. Personally I have never had any problems with giving or receiving grief by anyone because my name was attached to an item on any games AH so I don't understand why anyone would say this. Plus if they did they have /blacklist for a reason. Undercutting is going to happen as well in any system where you trade money for said item, just how it works in RL and how it works in game. I just prefer human interaction and/or their name if I wish to ask said seller a question. Unless they add a system where you can leave a message with a retainer and the seller will receive them and when they reply the reply comes back from the retainer, but even that is adding delayed response instead of a direct response.

I prefer the option to use a different name, while some people are fine with transparency I kind of like knowing that I don't have to worry about people harassing me no matter their intention. Whether it's something about how/why I sold item(s), or how/why I bought item(s) I prefer that not being the business of others unless I choose to divulge that information.
It doesn't build a community, but XI didn't prevent price fixing either. Seeing who buys what, shouldn't matter. The history that's currently shown is good. I also like the transparency with prices, you don't have to guess 10,001g -> 10,002g -> 10,003g when the history says 10,000 for the last 10 entries or accidentally buy an adaman ingot for the price of a stack... It leaves room for a lot less errors and upsetting transactions.
Whether it's Retainer A or JohnDoe does it really matter?
Ill be honest you see I farm all my materials which is a plus. Now seeing as I farm all my materials I can set my prices lower than other players. I set the price based on how easy or hard the materials was to get a hold of, as well as the difficulty in crafting the item (hq items depending on the level can be difficult). I dont consider this undercutting because I farmed all my materials. I dont have a middle man that I buy stuff from nor do I buy very much from the wards/retainers. This is a free market and each player has the right to charge whatever they want for whatever the item is. If players are stupid enough to buy an item/gear or what not for a high price that is their choice and as long as players continue to buy said item/gear or what not at such a high price this will continue.
