I think having a character you like is very important. It's the first thing I look at when considering to play a game. If they don't have a race/gender I like then I simply won't play it. I suppose other people may be happy with just game play and don't care about their character, but I think a character you like can help you feel connected to the world and have more fun. When times are bad in a game having a character I feel connected to may be the only thing that keeps me playing until things get better.

(Off topic: I really appreciate that in this thread people are able to ask for what they want without whining and complaining. ^-^ Some people on other threads don't seem to be able to express their opinions without being angry. Even if we all don't always agree we don't get on each others backs about things.

I think even more so your character is important in a game like this. You can play any class on one character so most people are going to be spending a lot of time playing one character rather than making many alts. The cutscenes and the story unique to Final Fantasy really make your character come alive, and that's where this game really shines. For me it's always been more about the story, the game world, and meeting new people. Every MMO I've played I've always felt attached to my characters and the world that he or she lives in. Of course I understand that not everyone plays MMOs for the same reasons, and I don't think anyone could deny that there are many other issues with the game at this point in time which need to be addressed. But I think given time, and incorporating player feedback, everything will improve and the game will become all that it was meant to be and all that the FFXI players were hoping for.

I agree. The potential in this game is endless and I know once things get fix with the help Yoshi-P's group it will be epic and the masses will come flocking back. Esp if they make the missing race genders possible.
