He's leaving for health reasons, if they found a cure to his problem, he could comeback someday ya?

Based on famitsu info, he left due cancer so yes, it's possible that, if everything goes well, he making a return in a year or so. I really hope this happens (even if not as SE employee)...he was one of the great minds of SE and it will be a big loss to both gaming industry and SE if he never come back.

Let's all be respectfull to the man who brought us XI and even if poorly received XIV wouldn't exist today without him. I wish him well in all of his future endeavors and a speedy recovery.

I would like to thank Mr. Tanaka for all his hard work over the years. Whether it be for Xenogears or the best damn MMORPG I have ever played (Final Fantasy XI). I'll always remember him as a great game producer. His choices in recent years may seem questionable in the eyes of fans, but he definitely has earned my respect and I wish him well in all his future endeavors.

I read this on RPGamer this morning when seeing that they're releasing yet another expansion for FFXI. Kind of surprised that they're still keeping it going, but there must be enough people still playing it to keep updating it.

..Yeah it's not surprising a successful MMO keeps going. Whether you like it or not personally doesn't change that fact.

He produced every game I adored when I was younger as well was brave enough to venture the long run FF series into the MMO to great success even if it was based on his other baby (FFIII.)

Best Game Designer/Director/Producer in the industry in my opinion. I don't put any of XIV blame on him. Most of his contributions to this game were revolutionary. Sadly, too revolutionary for this generation of MMO players. All the bad decisions in that game were clearly made at the Board level. Dated Technology, Old Engine, Early Release. These are decisions made by Suits to save money. He has had his hand in a large chunk of the Best RPGs ever made. That is what I'll remember.
