This reminds me of people saying DRG shouldn't have a pet since it's not in other FF's but in other FFs I could also equip more then 1 type of weapon on my jobs.

As a FFXIV forum poster: No it sounds like FFXI, we don't want what FFXI did in FFXIV because XIV is a new game, they should ignore that horrible MMO that lasted only 1 year and I played only to level 10 and quit!

As a normal person: I figured they would have brought this system over or at least expanded the range while keeping the class lock on weapon classes.

Same as a mage or any ingame kind... since when an archer goes out to the wilderness with only a bow and arrow?? where is the short damage weapon...
Mayb I'm just talking out of my ass and this is going to be fixed for 2.0 but I havent heard anything about it...
How can they add red mage's if they only gonna be able to equip one type of weapon...
    I really hope they have some sort of multi-crest slotting planned for super-cross-class jobs so that a PLD/BLM combo becomes RDM, or at least let certain classes equip more than one crest so that a GLD that equips a BLM crest can be sort of like a RDM. I really want to be a Red Mage. ;_;

That being said, you know that any type of weapon can have multiple variants, right? And every Disciple of War is a warrior of some type (without being the WAR job). It just takes a small change of perception, like understanding you're not a D&D fighter that's proficient in every weapon type.

A warrior with a sword and shield is a Gladiator. A sword can be an epee, a longsword, a greatsword, a buster sword....I wish GLD's that don't want to use shields could opt for 2-hand weapons.

A warrior with an axe is a Marauder. An axe can be a hatchet, a battle axe, a greataxe, a pole-axe. A one-hand axe and shield combo is a valid request.

A warrior with a spear is a Lancer. A spear can be a longspear, a ranseur, a halberd, a pike. It would be really hard to make one-handed spear weapons, but I guess short pokers could be handled somehow.

A warrior with a bow is an Archer. A bow can be a longbow, a shortbow, a crossbow, a....gun? Okay, I'm reaching with this one, but not as far as SE had to reach for BRD to be based on Archer >_>. Trigger-based weaponry would give them the one-hand option.

Oh, and I forgot fist weapons, but I guess they don't really have any overlap with other weapon types/classes anyway. You'd pretty much just be switching a cesti for a shield anyway. :/

    On with the mages:

A mage with a staff is a Conjurer. A staff can be a club, a quarterstaff, a bo, a greatclub.

A mage with a rod is a Thaumaturge. A rod can be a wand, a...rod, a...hm, staff is already taken...an ankh maybe?...ooh, and a sceptre.

I liked back when Shield was its own class, but they failed by not letting all of the classes wield shields with one-handed weapons and not having enough shield skills. I highly doubt the Shield class is going to make a comeback in 2.0, so I guess the best hope is one-handed weapons for everybody...that isn't stuck with pure 2-handed weapon builds (like LNC/DRG probably would be).

Actually I don't think that is it at all really but you sure do like to pull in the whole "you guys just hate FFXI!" thing... I actually enjoyed FFXI but the weapons system for XI wont work here unless they change the whole system around to fit it and I really don't want them to do that or even waste the energy thinking about it. Also Yoshi has said several times about adding certain weapons to certain classes... like giving GLA great sword so it can have a great DD option and unlock DRK. He also mentioned removing the daggers from the sword line to make a scout class that uses two daggers and make the job nin come from that.

But hey you know what lets just scrap everything we have going right now and toss out the whole armory system so that the classes can use all the different weapons... no really lets do that... because it sounds so smart... no it does... really... it... ok no really it is stupid... there I said it...

Then again most ideas you humans think up are really really.... dumb... though I am still amazed you all have not blown yourselves up yet... erm.. bravo?

Well this is the reason why u didnt like the game, u only played it 0,0001% and I think Im been generous... and that horrible MMO is still been played with a bigger community then its new 2 yr old version...
Im not asking for the same system because I do want a new game... what Im asking for is versatility on what weapons I can use with what skills... I understand that a warrior w a pike is a lancer, but it doesnt have the main abilitys of a warrior so its not a warrior anymore...
On top of that a lot of this DD's classes should have the use of a bow or crossbow... Its something realistic and obvious....

Would definitely love more versality, they could have pull a different one from BRD but lol. Bowharp is just another bow with silly harp attached.

Indeed, BRDs in XI had Harps/Flutes (non battle), and Staves/Daggers/Swords for battle..(obviously wouldn't come close in DPS with meles) but in XIV they're just Archers with songs. This is the main fault with the armoury system, it works in the grand scheme of things but it also ruins quite a lot of flexibility in terms of weapon selection.

Which brings up a point...people say they want XIV to be different but they also want it to be a 'standard mmo' but will defend the restrictive weapon system to the death even though pretty much every MMO allowed for flexibility in weapons within a particular class, e.g a mage can handle rods/staves/hammers/maces etc and a warrior can handles axes, 2haxe, sword, 2h hammer etc or they can all handle x weapon type but y class/job is actually proficient in it like WAR in XI can handle all weapons but mages gain most benefit from using a club/staff over a WAR.

This is how I originally expected the system to be, while the weapon marked your class, other melee could use it but would basically be a baby trying to walk for its first time with a weapon they have no proficiency in.

Hard not to want more weapons per class, it brings more depth to the game.

Yep, apparently asking for that is wrong though!
