I agree. I've seen a lot of mmorpgs that do this too. Natural wildlife critters that in reality can be struck down easily. I don't know what compelled SquareEnix to use squirrels or dormice as opponents, but let's also not forget that SquareEnix is still introducing monsters that look absolutely NOTHING like their original mythical appearances.

Perhaps in this crazy messed up world, squirrels are a terrifying creature to do battle with.

ffxi had rat bunnies in sandy and windy from 1-15 solo. mixed with sheep bees and worms. All mmo start you off with weakling creatures. WoW and Aion do also. heck in Aion you can level up to 10 just by gathering plants. How epic is that as a warriror LOL.

The problem is, most of these creatures go all the way up to level 50+. I can probably think up three game titles where you have to fight "deer" all the way up to near-level-cap. That's not right.

Least it kinda better then two worlds 2 where umm you are infact killing zoo animals. But the running up to a rhino and attacking them with a sword is kinda cool. Same with cheetha.

the squirrels are what rarabs were in ffxi. nearly every zaone had them even in aby there are some.

If you want good exp you will be unable to grind on those past level 40 in a party. >_> Antelope Stags aren't really "Zoo Animal" worthy and I can't think of anything else that is meant for high level play...unless Salamanders are considered "Cute Zoo Animals" O_o

That still doesn't explain why a deer can kill me despite the fact I can beat up giants single-handedly.
