MMO games should require groups to do most things. Why are so many people wanting to relegate party play to nothing other than instanced raids? bleh.

Because the goal was to make the game more casual friendly? Yoshi-P himself even talked about how people these days don't have the time to play for extended hours.
Right now, aside from helping your friends out, there's no incentive to replaying certain quests if you already finished them.

Source: US PlayStation BlogPSB: Being players of Final Fantasy XI as well, we know the game was really party-based, and that was a problem with some audiences. Can you also play solo on Final Fantasy XIV?
Yoshida-san: Definitely, you’ll be able to play the content solo too – it won’t be as party-based as Final Fantasy XI. But, on the other hand, we believe that in this current generation there are a lot of people with time constraints, and it’s hard for them to spend time finding a party. So we’re going to make sure that, for party-based contents, we make it easier to recruit a party. With the Content Finder tool, you’re going to be able to decide “Okay, I want to do this today”, then simply press the button and you’ll be joined by other people with similar goals. So you’ll be able to decide if you’re making a party and, if you don’t have the time, just press the button on Content Finder and you’re automatically in a party.
I believe this answers your plea OP. And I also believe this is the right direction.

It's definitely a good thing.Source: US PlayStation Blog

I know I sound like I'm whining a bit, but I needed a place to say something with the way the game currently is. With current GC quests being around only for a short time, I hate not being able to get through them more quickly when just gathering a party is more challenging. @_@

This. Thankfully I have managed to finish my AF quests but I feel so sorry for the people who shout in Uldah for help with AF quest 1/8. Most people have already done the fights that require a party a number of times for themselves and friends and are just tired of them. For the main quest that would be even more the case so that new players starting the game would struggle mightily with finishing the content. Content finder might help but doing content with random strangers is not automatically better than doing it solo in my humble opinion. Having some rare drops from these quests could incentivies experienced LS members to help out new people.
The problem with the main quest isn't that it is solo, it's that it is poorly executed. I would have liked to see it tie together the team around you more closely where you would fight together with a good path companion that actually continues to play a role outside the main scenario, your chocobo and maybe even your retainers in some support role so that you bond with the NPC characters attached to you.

For this Yoshi-P bring the content finder ... with 2.0. Instead to make all story soloable he want to make it for casuals easier to make a party.
