With their teleport and claim hacking, they literally got 99% of the rare items in XI before their mass bannings (over 1 million accounts banned in a year including buyers). RMT are NOT your friends. They are people who get their pay docked if they don't make X amount of Gil in Y hours. They don't choose their market prices...their bosses do.

Here's how supply and demand really works in a economy with limited supply.

1 person buys all of 1 item, sells them at a higher price, then continues to corner the supply and keep the price where they want it. Thats a bit harder to do in XIV, but still possible with the billions RMT farm every week.
11 isn't 14. What I see here , are greedy players versus rmt. Rmt provides the items and greedy players but them all. If rmt buys your item to set the price, just get more and overcut them. Very easy. When I see ppl charging stupid prices, I set mine lower. If they low, then much lower till they always buy my item. In the end, you always win. This game is great because it lets you get everything you want. So, if you are paying high for items, don't blame rmt. Blame greedy players and lazy ppl.

What rmt does here is saving me big Gil. I don't mind giving my Gil to rmt, that sells cheap but in big quantities, but I do mind paying high when one player decide he should charge 10mil for af weapon and 3mil for each materia.
