I would say a snowy, mountainous area but it seems 2.0 will be making parts of Coerthas just like that.

Not sure if serious...Areas with really stand out features would be great.
A Desert with a hidden lost temple/Pyramids, Oasis littering the wastelands
A snow covered floodplain with wooden lodges and great looming mountains casting shadows over a mammoth glacier
A wind swept coastline with broken ships littering the beaches, rain and rocks
A jungle full of tall statues higher than the tree line, full of spiders and red eyed wild monkeys
A tropical paradise of islands connected by treacherous sandy pathways that disappear with the tide - sharks
Autumnal Woodland full of wild deer, abandoned shacks and beer traps,
A great plateau standing high above great plains, waterfalls cascading down into deep cavernous pools below
Black, hot, volcanic treelines underneath a wide volcanic range of peaks, full of twisted metal and crucifxes
Actually, FFXII had a strong Turkish theme (which is similar to Russian designs), and FFXI had the Aztec thing going with the Temple of Uggalepih
I haven't seen a proper pyramid in the series since FFV though...
A giant battlefield with open world PvP. This battlefield can also include mining points that contain very rare and valuable items. Parties can camp gatherers and it could all be good fun.
- Anyway, I'd love to see towns covered in snow
- hidden locations with small rewards. With the jumping mechanic, I can imagine a trail of floating platforms that can lead to a chest with some gil and an item or possibly an NM fight. Maybe in an area with a blizzard we have to keep our ears open for the sound of light singing....if we follow it, we can emerge into a hidden village with cool quests to do.
- challenging dungeons with 100 floors. Each time you elevate/descend to a new floor, the enemies can be more challenging and every 10 floors can contain a boss. Some floors can be very, very short and may not even contain enemies. All floors can be randomly generated. A room after a boss fight can serve as a resting point with crystals that regenerate HP/MP and a repair NPC.
- Enemy villages that you have to sneak into as part of missions. You can't get caught.
- Moogle Village
I want an actual desert that looks like Death Valley or Africa, not this savannah crap that those ignorant everywhere mistake for a desert. In the middle of it, I want an actual desert city with a river running through it a la the early Bullhead City / Kingman / Laughlin / Las Vegas settlements. To make it more interesting, I want it to be surrounded by a large beastman stronghold with nothing but Lv.60+ enemy mobs and a family of Lv.100+ HNMs.
Wrong.
Anyone that thinks Thanalan is a desert has absolutely no clue what a desert is; Thanalan is what's called a savannah, and Ul'dah is anything but a desert city.
I hope they add cool mechanics like the 3 mage gate in ffxi
not my picture but i'll post it as an example
For those that didn't play FF11 this door took a whm, blm and rdm to open, once through the door you could pick up an item to finish a quest so that you didn't need the mages to get through. They did something similar with the weighted pads in quicksand caves where you could use 1 galka or 4 tarus to get the doors to open. Over all it doesn't add much effort to the game but plays a huge part in making it more immersive.
I'm looking forward to the black shroud as forestry has always been my favorite landscape. But I wouldn't mind an eastern style place either (cherry blossoms are to die for). Any place with beautiful plantlife is the place for me. :B So Thanalan is out, lol!
You want a desert more like that two-zone desert (can't think of the name) in XI, right? And its true, Thanalan is more like Australian desert or african savannah. It looks dry but not barren.I want an actual desert that looks like Death Valley or Africa, not this savannah crap that those ignorant everywhere mistake for a desert. Something dreamy like I'm on an acid trip or something. Sea from ffxi comes immediately to mind.
Note not asking for a copy/paste, but something where what is considered "normal" does a complete 180, where you can have trees growing from the sky towards the earth, or your walking on the clouds. Where rain is red for some reason and the sun is blueXD
