You cannot compare a game made back in 2002 with one from 2012, the technology jump is just too big.As for more things being handled client side... that would be a fix in some ways, but it would also open a hole large enough to sail the Titanic through (if it were still afloat). People would be doing the same crap they did in XI, with their speed hacks, their "teleporting across the zone" hacks, their "teleporting directly to a NM" hacks, etc. This all happened with XI because the server side seemed to give precedence to the client side in terms of where the player was at any given moment; it was abused like crazy. SE would have to put really careful measures in place to make sure that was kept to a minimum.
Also, Sqaure Soft developed the new engine AND server structure only for 2.0. I'm sure they learned from their past mistakes.

I don't care if the technology is 2024. When things are done client-side, it opens a huge opportunity for programs to be written that read incoming data that playes aren't supposed to see, as well as manipulate outgoing data to exploit the game. This happens in any case where such data is handled client-side.
The lesson to be learned is that you never leave gameplay critical functions or data on the client machine, because there are people who can and will exploit and abuse it to their own advantage.

And some how that everything being on SE servers some how stopped all the RMT and Bots right? lol Doesnt matter if its Server Side or Client Sde you can still cheat and hack away. Somethings can be made client side, there is no reason to have everything server sided.I don't care if the technology is 2024. You know this for fact? Seems in this thread you're wrong because some people are against it like you. Infact the OP has 11 likes but Jynx who is against it has 55, but you some how confuse this to think everyone is Pro for this idea?
/mindboggled.
Also i had a giggle over the "kill any economy", that was funny.
When lag is "hardly nothing" as people expect in 2.0, a lot of people wont move server just for a few milliseconds when they have a home on a server already. Where as others who want to go to more regional specific servers, have the choice. And new players will also.
Stop denying stuff for silly reasons, even when the reasons totally go against you lol.

nope i wont stop opposing silly stuff for valid reasons sorry^~^
and if the lag is hardly noticeable in 2.0 it not only would people stop from wandering off to that regional servers
it would make regional servers a gigantic waste of money and effort: server equipment, rented space for the server farm, maintenance personal, development personal on location and so on...
pretty excessive for some choice

lol and do you think about money waste?? every big software house has regional servers (EA with SW, Blizzard WoW, Trion with Rift, and those are just some without mentioning f2p ) ... Why with a such important project like this (that already wasted a lot of money) can't we have STANDARD features like local servers, expecially if international servers will continue running ?

now tell me how many of those have a regional server in japan? ^~^lol and do you think about money waste?? every big software house has regional servers (EA with SW, Blizzard WoW, Trion with Rift, and those are just some without mentioning f2p ) ... not one of them?
that's what i thought
but im not here to argue, my vote is and will remain a big NO for regional servers and i already stated more than one reason.
