Breaking down some of the screenshots

They have been this entire time. People on this board were making the exact same bitches about the job af's when those pics were first released. Industry or not, it seems to be SE's m.o.

Well if that's the case then that's good for you, who's been here long enough to know this and seen this before, but for us who just came back after quitting after release, how should we know that it's standard for SE? If I should believe everything that's posted in the forums then I guess the miracle retail patch that fixed all the beta problems came just as planned?

No one cares for SEs standards. You need some Eyecandy-pics to lure new players. Dont get me wrong, i love the new screenshots, but i also recognize that FFXIV in its current state looks much better on my PC and thats due to the obviously low settings in the released pics.

I wonder if you even understand the meaning of this sentence.
We are criticizing because we want to create a reaction, which hopefully will make the game better. If we saw the world burning, we would criticize it, hoping to save it.

Whereas others will just accept any change in the game. If they saw the world burning, they would probably tell you "it's ok, let it burn".

I rather be a nay-sayer, but one that do so to improve things. In this case it's not even about an improvement, but the reason of a downgrade. Just questioning why we can't have the same quality of textures the game currently has.

They have stated before that they do the test runs on lower settings, not the maxed out ones. Why anyone would be surprised that these shots are also in low resolution is beyond me.

Why would one claim something has been stated without giving any source is also beyond me.
The world would be a funny place if any scientist could claim stuff without anything to back it up. So please, any source? That would make us from the "hater camp" be as blindly happy as the rest of you and thus we would stop complaining about it.

They also don't need to Falsify their Graphics, when people can't run them on their computers. So it's best to show what is possible for others, then let them be surprised when they up the graphics, simple and less of a hassle in the end.

I'm pretty annoyed that these are probably not the highest settings. But hey, this is Squeenix one of if not the biggest graphics whores in the industry, so I'm not worried and I'm sure we can pump out some better performance.

But at the same time I bet people would find some way to complain either way. If it had really awesome graphics people would just say "SE being graphics whores as usual, nothing to see here." Or "it will probably still run like shit"

In a way, this is kind of ballsy of SE to show off the game like this. Not that it looks awful or something, it still looks really good, but I think it illustrates a little more about their priorities.

Or hey, maybe I'm wrong and this is really the best it can look.

Well thats very honourable, but iam afraid thats not how marketing actually works. Iam not saying that you should promise too much, but why not show maxed out images? All others do it to lure masses of ppl to buy the game and i dont think that the general public will appreciate SEs "honesty".

Well i dont know what you are about to say with that. Are you aware that FFVII´s graphics were groundbreaking for the time of its release? It was the first 3D Final Fantasy and had stunning overall graphics and video sequences.
