It's probably only for when Moogles speak, seeing as how the fact that you can understand them is kind of special in this world.

Its actually probably not, but at the same time its probably going to very customizable, both in the font, but also the background image. Put a blue tint on it and its very much like an old school Final Fantasy window prompt. Also as others have said this is the image style that the current UI director is known to use all the time, from Vagrant story to Final Fantasy Tactics, to the screen above in Ogre Battle.

Furthermore my FFXI chat window used to look very similar to that box with some of the various changes you could make to it. The main difference is the centerized boxed approach that FFXIV has deployed except now its not transparent anymore.

My only gripe with it is the choice of typeface, otherwise I'm completely fine with the dialogue box itself.

Well we can already modify the font used by the game it just has to be a universal one. I doubt they would drop that support.

it reminds me a LOT of Vagrant Story.

Anything that reminds me of Vagrant Story is instantly good.

I was thinking Vagrant Story (which is long overdue for an HD co-op remake).

The pop-up numbers for healing and damage remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics.

The interface text reminds me of Final Fantasy 13.

I do foresee retaining the ability to customize typeface. Perhaps flexibility in the dialogue box (background color, border type, border color, retain the opacity). Yum.
