A game maintence has nothing to do with a website, you can update files without pulling a site down in seconds :P

The new promotional site won't be up till after E3, not during .

i know they arent the same, but for all we know itl also be tacked on
wouldnt be the first time theyve done both at same time

SE has done this several times in the last few years, they will add this kind of thing and go live with it and such during game maint times.

thats why it wouldnt be unthinkable for them to toss it up live tomorow

Jeremy Parish of 1up.com brings in a little perspective on the spectacle that is E3 and such(taken from the latest "mini episode" of Games, dammit! on 1up.com):

You know, I feel kind of weird because I've seen and actually played a lot of these games already because of judges week and I can't talk about it yet, but the actual hands on experiences I had were with different parts of these games, and I liked them much more than what they showed at the press conferences. So like Crysis 3? If I were basing my opinion of Crysis 3 today, I would just scoff and say "aw that's crap". If I were going off what I saw today to develop an opinion of Tomb Raider? I would be really down on that game, but I know there's more to these games than that and I've played them and I've enjoyed what I've played, and yeah, that's why I'm a little cynical of these press conferences, because they don't communicate the experiences of these games...

...These little slices they show you I guess they make for good TV, but they don't make for compelling argument to buy a game or play it...

There's a little paraphrasing here and there, so go listen to the episode yourself(I would), but basically it just echos a lot of sentiment that goes around regarding E3, and I'm perfectly cool if FFXIV saves its presence for more playable time at other conferences and other info dumps.
