This is why most MMOs have a Test Server. It makes sense and should be done. Releasing patches bareback to the player base without outside testing has done nothing but bring SE ill.So by your logic we should have a monthlong beta of every patch in case something can be exploited like something ALWAYS IS, EVERY PATCH. Yes, there will be issues with 2.0, yes some of those issues may actually be exploitable to a player's benefit, no there will not be a wipe get over it.
(Every single time this is brought up it ends the same way, "no Yoshi does not have any plans to wipe data.", dev parrots this response, players accept it for about 2 weeks until someone who hasn't read the last 15 threads about it, or somehow believes SE has changed their collective mind in 14 days brings it up again.)
Then SE should do exactly as I totally said in my first response to this thread and every one of your responses is entirely redundant because you're the one who said a seperate test server wasn't what you were asking about.
I was referring to testing patches, not the 2.0 client. If I am wrong and SE has the capability to run both 2.0 server and the 1.XX live servers then you are correct. I was under the assumption that SE was not able to run both at the same time.
How would you expect them to run 2.0 beta and a 2.0 live server at the same time then? So for 2.0, an update that is going to change the WHOLE FREAKING GAME, wiping data is fine and a test server is totally unnecessary, but for a regular patch opening up an ENTIRELY SEPARATE SERVER to test it makes total and complete sense?
(Seriously, what are you smoking?)
And for the 50th time since Yoshi took over FFXIV, he is totally and completely against wiping character data of any kind, even for free trial periods.

I wasn't saying to run a 2.0 beta and a 2.0 live server in parallel. I was saying running a 1.XX server and a 2.0 beta server in parallel, like you originally stated. If SE was not able to run a 1.XX server and a 2.0 beta server at the same time I was talking about SE just running the 2.0 beta server by itself.
Which would mean we are being forced to stop leveling our retail character for three months to test. There is literally no other game on the market that would do this, and it's NOT a test server because it would be the ONLY SERVER RUNNING. Which would mean they are, in fact, wiping/rolling back data on our RETAIL accounts.I wasn't saying to run a 2.0 beta and a 2.0 live server in parallel. I was saying running a 1.XX server and a 2.0 beta server in parallel, like you originally stated. If SE was not able to run a 1.XX server and a 2.0 beta server at the same time I was talking about SE just running the 2.0 beta server by itself.
And in case you missed it Yoshi said that was not gonna happen from the very start.

Since SE would suspend the monthly subscription fees it could be seen as a beta, since you are no longer paying for access. So your account that a player would use would not be their retail account, but their 2.0 beta/trial phase account.

Here's my guess... When 2.0 beta begins you'll have an option to participate in the beta by either:
A.) Using a pre-made character (Lv50 in full AF probably.) or a freshly made character. This is on a separate server designed for testing.
B.) Porting over an existing character to a testing server. All data earned on this character won't be carried over to your existing character when beta ends.
Automatically carried over, which means guess what? No three month beta with wipe.Exp, Lv, Gil, Items and the list of completed quests will automatically be converted and carried over to the new FFXIV without loss.
Therefore, please continue to play normally without worry to this issue.

That being said, it's also worth noting that he did, in fact say they would be opening new servers where you can start from scratch, if that's what you want to do.

The lack of reading comprehension in this thread is astounding!
@OP: If you have not read, 2.0 will be run in a totally separate server due to server limitations. So it is fully possible for SE to run a 2.0 test server alongside 1.XX should they choose. If they do the test server will be wiped, only time will tell how SE will run their testing.
