If THAT is your question then the answer is absolutely positively "NO, WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING?" not. Either the beta will be on a different server with new chars, or our characters will be transferred and we'll keep everything.

1.) It makes no damn sense.

2.) A LOT of people would just be like "Fuck this back and forth bs, I quit.".

(Also, you think it's convoluted to run both server but perfectly acceptable and reasonable to be like "Yeah you'll play with your character for three months for which you will be paying and at the end we will be wiping all your progress for those months so you can ACTUALLY start playing? Seriously, dude, what are you smoking?)

Edit : As much as people have already put up with from this game, imho, there is no way SE would be stupid enough to wipe progress at this point. Two years post launch would be a bad time to decide to roll characters back for ANY reason. Any people (read : masochists) who have been playing since release would literally delete their SE accounts in disgust.
This makes perfect sense from a software development stand point. Since the 2.0 client hasn't been tested outside of the SE offices it would be a repeat of the 1.XX launch if they don't have an effective external testing phase.

SE would be rushing the 2.0 client out of the door. Much to the pleasure of the current FFXIV players, but if the client has as many problems, and can have exploits that were looked over by SE (not one group of people can find EVERY problem in a video game) then it would create an even WORSE image of the game and SE as a whole.

So by your logic we should have a monthlong beta of every patch in case something can be exploited like something ALWAYS IS, EVERY PATCH. Yes, there will be issues with 2.0, yes some of those issues may actually be exploitable to a player's benefit, no there will not be a wipe get over it.

(Every single time this is brought up it ends the same way, "no Yoshi does not have any plans to wipe data.", dev parrots this response, players accept it for about 2 weeks until someone who hasn't read the last 15 threads about it, or somehow believes SE has changed their collective mind in 14 days brings it up again.)

Lots of games have this its called a test server. So people can play and test out new patchs before they hit live servers. Even FFXI has it.

Yes, but FFXI (and other games) do not wipe (or roll back) your retail character data for it.

That's because they are always done on copies from live or temp chars so they can be wiped without a problem and SE very well may have you copy your char to the 2.0 beta which will get wiped and only your 1.X char will actually count toward progression.

Yes, but those games also do it on ALTERNATE servers meaning you aren't forced to stop your retail character's progression for 3 months to test it.

This is why most MMOs have a Test Server. It makes sense and should be done. Releasing patches bareback to the player base without outside testing has done nothing but bring SE ill.

Then SE should do exactly as I totally said in my first response to this thread and every one of your responses is entirely redundant because you're the one who said a seperate test server wasn't what you were asking about.
