I think they did daily update on the lodestone back in 2010
but now... one article per week, and it make players mad (7th letter)
It makes people mad because we're all trying to make sure that the game gets salvaged. We're all playing, waiting with bated breath in hopes that SE will do something so that the game can at least be on the same level that XI was at launch in NA.
This last developer's letter, while it was ok from my standpoint, and hasn't really swayed my decision to keep playing, really upset a lot of people. The reason for that, is it's so damn vague....all of the letters are vague and full of promises (auto-attack, class gear, making actual jobs or job names like XI where they're distinct and give people a goal to strive for, etc), but we still haven't SEEN when any of those promises are going to be coming through.
As it stands, we're still sitting on a game with little to no content, with, in my opinion, a sub-standard battle system, horrible class system, and no airships, no chocobos, nothing that really makes the game stand-out as a true "Final Fantasy" title. To be honest, the only thing that makes it feel like FF is the Moogles....and even then they're rare to begin with. Fans and current players of this game, aren't so much upset about the fact that the updates are slow, or that the letters and posts aren't daily (from what I've seen)....they're pissed because the game just isn't a "Final Fantasy" title, and hell, it's actually kind of hard to classify it as anything right now to be honest.
Then too, you have the people pissed off with the updates, because certain things (quest icons, etc) make people feel like SE is trying to turn the game into WoW....I quit WoW, I quit Rift....if I wanted to play a game with a similar playstyle to those, then I'd still be playing either of them. People bought and are still buying XIV and XI because of the unique offerings that cater to those looking for something different in the usual MMO formula.
In short, people are just upset for varying reasons across the board, but ultimately the one thing we all have in common, is we want a next-gen FF MMO, and we want the game to at least succeed on some level. Unfortunately, the game is still steadily, and slowly dying, and I think we're all just a little bit afraid of it reaching the point where so many people have said screw it, that SE finally pulls the plug....because right now, at this time, this game is just a giant money pit for them, and they don't appear to really be focusing (even in the past, I'm aware of Japan's current events) on turning the game around in a timely fashion, and even the most die-hard of FF fanboys are giving up.
As an example, I started back up a week ago, and logged into my old character. Every single LS I was in before, is dead....one having over 90 members, and not a single person being on.....and that was on Wutai, which wasn't close to being a dead server before. I actually had to remake a new dude on Figaro in hopes of seeing some signs of life somewhere, and while there is more than Wutai, the game's population is a far-cry from what it was even 3 months after release.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I understand your reply....but that honestly doesn't mean anything. If SE came out and said "Ok guys, next June the game WILL be up to snuff, and we'll start charging then, the new expansion pack will be out the month after, and the PS3 release will be in the same month"....then I'd honestly not give a damn, and I think that while a lot of people would quit right now if they read that, those same people would come back. Personally, I'd keep playing till then, and for the people that are die-hards, just getting a statement like that would give them some form of hope as to what in the hell SE plans to do....some direction they're taking with the game, etc.
People like concrete things....things that make them feel all warm and fuzzy, things that are at least 90% certain. Vague letters detailing the things you're "looking into" and "thinking about" doing, don't really make people feel good at all....the game was released with that mindset, or close to it....and I think people are just tired of vague. Releasing concept art you have for class armor is great....but I think people would be more excited if we saw the models of the armor, and a message stating "We're going to implement them in the soonest patch possible for you guys to go out and get!!" Otherwise it just feels like a tease, a hope that good things are coming....and frankly, that's what we've been hoping and waiting for since launch, I know I have.
Yoshi-san is talking to the community more, sure, but he really isn't very much more concrete on anything than Tanaka and the previous team were....at least I haven't seen anything that made me feel otherwise.

at least they should have one article per day on the lodestone
because people play your game and visit your site daily
Thank you, Kazahashi. I want this to be the best damn MMO ever made. But I'm not going to stick around if the developer doesn't seem to be on a track - and I'm the last person of my 20-man LS who still logs on occasionally.
One article about what? About the content like they used to do? What could they possibly make an article on anymore that they haven't done? The game isn't overflowing with content.
If you're talking about like, a developer's article where they're like "We're doing this today guys!!", it's not going to happen, and will never, in fact, happen. They're not going to take the time every day to write a status update, and then send it to translators to translate a couple sentences into 5 different languages. That would be wasting there time....and besides, even if they did that, people would still whine and complain.
It wouldn't be a waste of time. It would take 5 minutes for a guy to write it all out, and to e-mail to the translators who will then take another 5 minutes, and then they'd email the translations out to the guy who posts them onto the website. In total it would take 15 minutes.
I just want to know that the devs aren't just sitting on their hands.
Simply put, the battle and class systems in this game suck. The majority of ppl who still play are only doing so to get ahead of everybody else. If the game never becomes a success, all of their efforts will have been wasted.

articles are not need to be an update...
I'm 50/50 on all this, while I realize it takes time to do stuff, also can't help but feel that they have had time, and if whats been added is 100% of what they have done then it will be 2-3 years.
BUT in their defense and a few of the letters and stuff have hinted at this, I think there is alot of PVE material that is done and being worked on as we type, but they are holding back on releasing them untill they work out the bugs and finalize the combat system. No point in adding tons of content for current combat system, if they change 50% or mor of every class out and add more, better for them to focus for when those are done and design the content for those changes and release them when the combat changes go live.
