im afraid that theyll just show what changed from the release of the game till now. and only hint at 2.0
I'm expecting a new CG trailer, some minor information and that's about it at E3. They won't devote too much of their attention on a game that's already been released, they will be focusing on new games. I do expect to see a flood of information and videos after E3 leading to 1.23 and then 2.0
I would be surprised if it's CGI only mainly cause of this comment

JPGAMES.DE, Michael: Between October and December 2012, you plan to integrate the PS3 Version in an all-new FINAL FANTASY XIV, do you think you will have material to show at E3 2012? Or is this too early?
Yoshida Naoki: Visual Works, the company that makes the trailers and movies for SQUARE ENIX, is actually working on new movie trailers for FINAL FANTASY XIV, we should be able to show that to the public at E3. But about touching the game… I’m being quite cautious this time, I really want to make sure that the user interface is perfect and comfortable to show to the public, so E3 2012 may be too early, but probably we can show screenshots at that time. We will do our best to distribute information. So please, look forward to it.
JPGAMES.DE, Frederick: So no gameplay material at E3 2012?
Yoshida Naoki: Hands on or movies?
JPGAMES.DE, Frederick: Movies.
Yoshida Naoki: We will do our best, we can’t make any promise. But we will do our best to show gameplay movies to the public. Personally, I don’t like CGI-only movies. I want to show the gameplay, so we will do our best!
Probably - CS and a few in game trailers.
What i'd like:
Overview of combat :
Which would include colision/physics (blocking a mob with your body to keep it away from the mages ect)
New animations/attacks/spells.
Body part targeting on large mobs to inflict status effect style injury.
Overview of new UI+info on customisation
A good look some of the new maps.
As i'm hoping they are still realistic, relatively huge but with a lot more fantasy dotted about.
A good look at one of the towns too see what's if much has changed.
An finally something about summoners, group crating and to actually see some life in the npcs, camps and hamlets so they look lived in populated and not just filed with static un-animated content.
Oww and aggressive mobs attacking weak ones, imperial attacks being fought off by the camp/town guards,...
Hmm... nvm lol..
i'll go back to wishful thinking..
Most likely we'll get a cinematic trailer, it's SE after all.
But most importantly, I want to know how Sony is going to spin the poor sales of the PSV in Japan into a positive way.
This is going to be brutally anti-climactic ><
We're gonna get a short 30 second video of FFXIV characters animated to Kriss Kross' Jump.
all races will be shown jumping around with the Large font bolded text flashing into existance 1 by 1 :
R
U
HAPPY
NOW!?
then a slow fade in:
FFXIV 2.0: now with jump.
In all seriousness, I think we'll see a CGI type movie of the event leading into the 7th umbral era. aka Meteor smashing down in eorzea followed by a montage of quick cuts of in game footage. nothing lasting more than 2 or 3 minutes tops.
Unfortunatly SE will miss their chance to impress the gaming world/press in large at this event. Maybe it's for the better as other compnaies will be showing their big guns as well. SE might be saving the megatonne for vanafest which is a week after E3 or tokyo game show which isn't far off either to have a more intimate unveiling of FFXIV to try and draw more attention.
In my opinion, if they want to impress, they should show footage of gameplay and redesigned UI and some redesigned areas.
I know it may be too early, but that's my opinion.
Showing a cinematic trailer is not going to convince anybody. CGI is not gameplay, is not content, is not anything. It's merely eyecandy. If they want to garner attention, showing us bits and pieces of the redesigned 2.0 will be the way to do it.
