It was very well implemented in LoTRO (pipe-weed smoking was really cool too), they even had events centered around drinking games, like getting drunk in every inn of The Shire in a certain amount of time, you'd run from one inn to the next with your vision going to shit, it was a pretty awesome break from regular MMO activities.

So yeah, I would like to see that kind of thing in FFXIV. It doesn't take away anything and it can be fun.

Wow I think I still have LoTR installed since it became free, never knew about pipe smoking what did that do?
In the single player game gothic2 it had some pretty cool stuff like a hookah you could sit down at and smoke - and ofcourse the brothel! when you paid you got a cutscene of... activities...

It didn't really do anything, the smoking animation just changed depending on the brand you smoked. It was just something you could do for fun, and I guess it had a role-play purpose for some players. Mostly though I think it was just a small but appreciated detail that made Tolkien's lore more apparent in the game.

God knows FFXIV could use more interactive details referring to Eorzean lore.
