in what way? it's entirely possible i'm not remembering correctly, or seeing things through nostalgiavision- but it seemed like while quite a lot of people were botting/teleport hacking, it was kept very quiet... and when people found out about it, it left a black mark on the player's record that people never forgot. especially if they got banned for it.

i don't really remember anyone openly defending cheating outside of "well if we don't do it, we can't compete"- which is admittedly a bit weak in itself, but never really denied outright that it was cheating.
