guild wars 2 has the same old "go here gather X of this, kill Y of that" quest system as every other MMO, they just try to disguise it better and sprinkle it with fancy industry buzzwords like 'dynamic'. be objective.

It really is different, though, and as someone who's played the game I'll vouch for it. Of course we're far off from having an ENTIRELY open and dynamic Elder-Scrolls-esque world in an MMO, but GW2's gotten it close.
It's also the other features (auto level scaling, eliminating competition by giving all participants loot and EXP without grouping, getting rid of the 'trinity', etc) that better the questing overall.
I think it'd be really boring if XIV were to completely copy any game, why would anyone want to play two versions of the same thing? However there's nothing wrong with them taking inspiration from good ideas that other people are doing and putting their own spin on it, and making quests influence the world is a fantastic idea.
