    A Toto-rak farming guide

    Basic Toto-Rak Speed Run Guide

This guide is meant for a duo of r50 THM/BLM to run through the r25 dungeon with the goal of getting a complete clear to farm the green U/U items from chests to exchange for company seals. If you do it right you can get around 1,500 – 2,500 seals per hour depending on luck and doubles. You will aim to complete 2-4 runs of the dungeon back to back before returning to your home city to exchange.

    Starting Tips:
~ Clear your inventory so you have room for the equipment drops and the random mob drops that you may want to keep for crafting or NPCing (This is a good place for Red Coral, Flax and Chocobo Feathers).
~ Ideally you would do this with someone in the same GC as you to minimise anima cost of getting back to exchange seals after the end of each run.
~ Set one home point at the Silent Arbor gate, and one hope point at the inn of your GC city.
~ Work out who is doing what before going in.
~ If you are still learning the run and have 2 monitors, open up the map in the 2nd screen.
~ There will always be mobs around a photocell. Don't try to pick up the photocell without dealing with the mobs. Their attacks will inevitably break you out of the pickup screen and you will just waste time. When the 2 players are together, the first person can run in and grab agro, so the person behind can pick it up uninterrupted. If not, just use a AOE attack or Sleepaga. (Note: The wisps are very resistant to sleep, so it is best to kill when they are involved)
~ After you open the final portal and before you walk in to engage Shaula, spend a few seconds clearing your loot list to make it easier to receive/send drops after the fight.

    Class Stuff:
I have mostly done this with a r50 THM/BLM duo but WHM can also be used. You can experiment using other classes like MNK and BRD to make use of fast movement skills. However AOE damage is the key here and TP-reliant classes may not be as efficient compared to Mages. With a decently geared THM or BLM one fire is sufficient to take down most of the r30 mobs inside and Sleepaga rarely gets resisted on the non-wisp mobs. Also resists aren't that much of an issue, so go with INT and Magic Potency gear rather than Magic Accuracy.

    Map/Guide stuff:
    ~ Yellow route = Person A (A)
    ~ Purple route = Person B (B)
    ~ Photocell = (P)
    ~ Chest = (C)#

    First Boss Chest Stuff
There is some debate ofer the spawn conditions of the first boss chest. In Dezmael, Aurum and Cutters, this chest has been pinpointed to a specific mob(s). However there are varying reports on which mob, or group of mobs are the target for the first chest. Theories include
    - Kill all 3 groups of Tainted Lice
    - Kill all Puddings
    - Kill 2 bombs in second area
    - Kill 3 mitelings in last area
    - Kill a certain quantity of mobs.

For me personally, I have done a duo run where we didn’t touch any mobs except for the 2 bombs mentioned and we got the first chest. Others have reported the same findings for the tainted lice and the miteling strategy. I will make notes in the guide for when each event occurs so you can get them all.

    Toto-Rak Part 1
Both people run forward. One grabs (C)1 and the other runs towards the first (P). Either kill the mobs and collect cell, or run on with agro and let other pick up (P). At the crossroads, A splits off and heads to the center of map, B heads south. A runs through, picks up the (P) and (C)2 and runs back then down. B will probably be faster and can run up and get the 4th (P) while A is still on the way down. Whoever gets to Portal first opens.

*NOTE*: Person B will encounter the first group of tainted lice

    Toto-Rak Part 2
Run forward and split at the crossroads. B runs south to the Antares gate and gets the first (P). Then then double back and head north, getting (C)3 and (P). They then drop down the ledge and head to the Portal. In the meantime A runs on down the path and collects the last 2 (P). They then wait there for B to open the green barriers with the Portal

*NOTE*: Person A will encounter the 2 bombs above the cluster of flowers guarding the last photocell

    Toto-Rak Part 3
A is already in place for the portals to open, so runs along the lower path picking up 2 (P). B runs east and south, dropping down at the ledge and then takes the north path to a (P) and (C)4. Whoever gets to the middle path first, heads down to collect the last (P). The other player heads to the Portal again. This can be done by
    a) using "Return" to head back to the start of the dungeon and make their way to the Portal (it is slightly faster, or
    b) running back south, west then north. If you are fast you may find that return may still be on cooldown from coming back from a city or from a previous round and you may have to walk.

Once the 4th (P) is collected, the other person makes their way back with whatever option is fastest/available for them.

*NOTE*: Person A will encounter the second group of tainted lice

    Toto-Rak Part 4
Both players should be on their way back to the Portal. Whoever gets there first opens it and heads left (indicated as Person A). They pick up (C)5 and take the long path around to a (P). The slower player (indicated as Person B) heads right at the portal and then north at the crossroads to get (C)6 and a (P). You should meet up roughly around the 3rd (P). Then just move on down the path to the last (P) and Shaula's room. Head in and defeat her for your rewards

*NOTE*: Person “A” will encounter the third group of tainted lice and a group of 3 cell mites at the end of the path before heading south to meet up with the other player

    Chests:
There are 11 Chests available in a full clear of Totorak: 6 Dungeon Chests, 5 Boss Chests. If a normal chest doesn't drop an item it will drop Grade 3 Dark Matter. With the boss chests, the 4 containing weapons/shields will only drop one of the 2 possible items, but the centre chest can drop more than one item, as well as gil.

When you are split up, and you open a chest, if you aren't in range then you won't see what item goes to the other person's loot, so if you open the chest and don't see anything, check with the other person. If there is a double on a consecutive run of a chest item, you may have to meet up to transfer the item in your loot lists.

    Chest Contents:
    Chest 1: Torturer's Monocle
    Chest 2: Warden's Barbut
    Chest 3: Brigand's Acton
    Chest 4: Brigand's Gloves
    Chest 5: Torturer's Duckbills
    Chest 6: Warden's Gauntlets
Boss Chest 1: Warden's Dagger (GLA) OR Charred Axe (MRD)
Boss Chest 2: Tidesplitter (LNC) OR Joukil's Guile (ARC)
    Boss Chest 3: Poacher's Tunic, Poacher's Hat, Ascetic's Halfrobe, Ascetic's Tights
Boss Chest 4: Tenfinger Tallstaff (THM Staff) OR Unbreakable Knuckles (PGL)
Boss Chest 5: Heart of House d'Arlendre (CNJ Staff) OR Waning Sun Pelta (GLA Shield)

    Chest Conditions:
The conditions for the 5 chests at Shaula are (from left to right)
1 (Blue) - Kill target Mobs (see note at start)
2 (Blue) - Open all Portals
    3 (Gold) - Kill Shaula
4 (Blue) - Complete in less than 25 mins (35:00 left on clock)
5 (Blue) - Open all 6 chests on the way

    Seal Conversion:
Here is the table of seal rewards. Basic summary = 200 seals for the dungeon chest items, 250 for the weapons/gear from the boss chests, except for the items that drop from the speed chest, which are worth 300.

    Loot Distribution:
On an average run you will get about 6 items. Split at 3 items each, you should net around 700-750 seals per run. On subsequent runs, share items by what you don't have. For example in run #1 Person A gets a Charred Axe and Person B gets a Tenfinger Tallstaff. In run #2 both items drop again, so Person B gets the Charred Axe and person A gets the Tenfinger Tallstaff. This is because all items are Unique so you can't carry 2 of the same item at the same time.

    Finishing up runs:
I suggest doing 2 to 4 runs back to back. This reduces the number of trips to town and Anima costs if return is down. Provided you have inventory space to hold everything this should work out well for both people.

However, I don't recommend doing more than 4 runs in a row. Unlike NM farming, you can't hold items in your loot list as they are automatically placed in your inventory upon exit. If the same item drops 3 times in a row, neither of you will be able to hold it as all items are Unique/Untradeable and you lose the item, which means lost seals and wasted effort. 2 runs at a time means no wasted items. 3 -4 runs at a time gambles with luck and how many items get dumped.

After you complete your runs, port/return back to town. If you are from different Grand Companies, you may have to take turns porting to one town and having one player airship to their Company's city. Exchange items for seals, dump materials you want to keep on a retainer and sell junk drops to NPC. If you have space and are free to move retainers around, you can store items on them for exchanging later. By this time Return should be off cooldown if you used it inside the dungeon, so use it to return to Silent Arbor and head back to the dungeon entrance.

With a max time of 25mins for each run and doing 2 runs, it should take you a little less than 1 hour to do each round of Run #1 > Run #2 > City > Clear Inv > Return – netting you about 1,500 seals an hour.

If done efficiently, you can complete Toto-Rak in 10-15 mins meaning 3 runs can net you around 2,200 an hour. After that returns start to slow as the rate of wasted items increases. Technically the max amount of seals you can get is 4,300 if you have one of every item, but with sharing drops it may take more effort to try and get all items than to do a set number of runs with less wastage.

    ------
There are many ways to do Toto-Rak. This is the method that I use with a LS mate. We tend to do 2-3 hour farms a couple of times a week as we both have a huge wishlist of seal purchases. This isn’t perfect. There are probably ways to tweak it so it is faster and better, so feel free to post any tips. This is just meant to be a simple guide for those not sure how to go about Toto-farming. You may find yourself tweaking it for your use. This is just what works for me.

Really would be nice to know the exact conditions of that first chest. I suspect the community will figure it out when farming a bunch of seals.

Cool Guide. That's pretty much the exact same strategy as My Version but you've made a lot more effort with your maps than i did lol. +1 for the effort and the level of information.

with a little practice and once familier with the route plan you can clear that in 12 minutes quite easily. the friend i usually run with we'll do 3 runs in the 45 minutes return to town and trade items in and take a break for 10-15 mins then sometimes run 3 more. typically find 3 runs is the best point to return and trade stuff in as thats usually when we begin to get wasted items. its unusual for the same item to drop 3 times in a row but it happens.

depending on luck with the 6 chests on the way through the dungeon you can get 2,500 - 3,500 seals every 45 mins on average
