I mean, like. for example spending Gil to upgrade our plot from a Medium to a Large would be awesome

Its coming
Careful of that 450 I limit

Internally as mentioned, that's coming.
Externally that just wouldn't physically fit.

I don't believe they ever give us such a feature, but Yoshi P. said they are working on a system that give you possibility to change indoor size of a house regardless of the size of the plot.
I don't want to paint pictures with my fingers in a world where brushes exist.

As others have said, the internal upgrade is coming. It would have been in the game already given their original timeline but they said they ran into some bugs with it during implementation and testing so we need to wait a bit longer. We haven't really heard much more since then so when it's actually coming is anyone's guess.
External upgrades just won't work given that the neighbourhood instances are pre-baked so that would require the whole way the housing instances work changing (or the removal of neighbourhood instances altogether since with a single person/house instance it conceivably wouldn't really matter)
Yoshi-P wasn't very clear about when..
He said "next update after 7.5."
Obviously it doesn't mean 7.51 as we're on 7.51 and it's not here.
Does that mean 7.55, 7.56 or 8.0?
A little more clarity would be nice considering this feature was first announced in 7.1... almost 2 years ago.
I think it all comes down to development priorities and the resources SE is willing to allocate to this. The team working on housing might be small.Yoshi-P wasn't very clear about when..

True but if you're in the "too early to tell" stages or "have other priorities" then maybe don't announce/tease the feature to begin with.
If they released this in 7.55 or even 7.56, would end Dawntrail on a Win.. especially for me.
The last time a non-FC large opened up on my server we had like 238 bids.
Also, SE's biggest competitor (World of Warcraft) has a much more modern housing system with basic functionality that we have to use glitching or other questionable means to achieve,

Blizzard and SE different companies with own workflow and priorities. Speed of work with feature also is hightly depends of how much ppls on it. If SE thinks that housing is for dozen casuals - development would take years of time.True but if you're in the "too early to tell" stages or "have other priorities" then maybe don't announce/tease the feature to begin with.

He openly said in the 7.5 live letters that the system is "feature complete" and that he wanted to make the UX/UI around the system a bit more user friendly.
