Truthseeker is described as a staff in the Encyclopedia Eorzea. They're kinda loosey-goosey with staves, canes, rods, and the like.

EDIT: Also in Final Fantasy it is generally the case that white mages used staves while black mages used elemental rods. Regardless, the distinction in this game is not divided by weapon type, but by discipline's arms. For example, white mage has access to the madman's whispering rod, the seraph cane, and the Mado Staff.

You're actually correct on this one - It's been a long while since I played either of the magic stick users and got the terminology jumbled. Encyclopedia Eorzea II does have a chapter on weapons and lists prominent designs for Thaumaturges (brands, scepters, cudgels, staffs, longpoles, rods) and Conjurers (wands, canes, radicals, crooks, shakujo)... and then it goes and confuses the issue by noting the Whispering Rod and Omnirod as conjurer arms on the same damn page, ugh.

Yeeeep, as noted above. Even Kan-E-Senna's Claustrum is referred to as a staff in the Encyclopedia Eorzea when they probably should be referred to as canes or crooks given their construction.


Maybe I should edit the list to just say "caster's/healer's magistick" for these arms that refuse to be consistently categorized...
