Characters With Named Weapons

I'm helping with a project and i need a list of characters who have named weapons. Also its just a cool list to make. Off the top of my head I have

Raubahn/Tizona
Yda/gut wrenches
Aymeric/naegling
Merlwyb/death penalty and annihilator
Zenos and his golf bag of swords

Sharing what I've been able to find in the Encyclopedia Eorzea (with some inferred from the Mog Station).


Many prominent Garleans have/had named weapons :

Sharing what I've been able to find in the Encyclopedia Eorzea (with some inferred from the Mog Station).

This helps make it clear that a lot of these are only alluded to in side material. Which explains why Dawntrail is absent here; it's not that Turalians wouldn't name weapons (I guarantee Wuk Lamat's given her axe a name), it's that we haven't had the chance to learn.

Also, if we want to give a weird edge case, while Estinien's current spear doesn't have a noted name (it might still be 'Gae Bolg'), a short story does confirm his current armor is named 'Iceheart'.

He calls his spear Nidhogg several times in the game.

That is true, and I was struggling to remember the specific instances! But that one's also a little weird, because I've always read it as him calling to the spirit and blood of Nidhogg, which his weapon is covered in. Nidhogg as an entity rather than as a weapon; I don't know if he's ever made specific note of it as the name of his spear.

Another notable one is Ascalon, allegedly the historic sword of King Thordan, and the name given to the sword created by Thordan VII from the body of Haldrath upon his apotheosis into Knights of the Round.

Oh, and of course, Save the Queen, the central object from the Save the Queen quest series, "wielded" by Misija. And if we're talking about trigger weapons, the original Excalibur was wielded by the hero king Artorius. And when we talk about Excalibur, we can to talk about all of the relic weapons, which are were recreations of historical weapons, such as Shatotto's Stardust Rod.

Okay, you've accidentally triggered one of my favorite fields of lore: I don't think that's accurate to say about Excalibur, because going by Eureka Orthos, it's more accurate to say that Excalibur wielded Artorius. It's stuck through his chest, after all.

The other Eurekan weapons are plausibly called 'named weapons of characters', although probably with asterisks, because all of these do use these weapons as the weapons they visually appear to be:

• Odin and Zantetsuken
• Raiden and Shin-Zantetsuken
• Art and the Black Spear
• Owain and the White Spear
• Absolute Virtue and the Spear of Virtue

I could get even nerdier and argue that going by the lore we have for FFXIV's Absolute Virtue it probably isn't the 'intended wielder' of the Spear of Virtue, but that's getting real niche and weird about it.

• Blaz Azetina - Hoshikiri (katana)
• Isolde Covey - Brilliance (bow)
• Lovro Slanasch - Talekeeper Recollection (rapier)
• Marsak Apella - Molybdenum (gunblade)
• Meryall Miller - Talekeeper Recollection (think she gets it after confronting Lovro?)
• Stanik Alubov - Honorbound & Tenacity (sword and shield)
• Velibor Azetina - Woeborn (greatsword)
• Xeven Svanasch - Soulscorge (rod)

I honestly just got these from the wiki, I think it can be assumed that the remaining Blades also wielded one of their respective job's Shadowbringers Relic Weapons.

Truthseeker is described as a staff in the Encyclopedia Eorzea. They're kinda loosey-goosey with staves, canes, rods, and the like.

EDIT: Also in Final Fantasy it is generally the case that white mages used staves while black mages used elemental rods. Regardless, the distinction in this game is not divided by weapon type, but by discipline's arms. For example, white mage has access to the madman's whispering rod, the seraph cane, and the Mado Staff.
