FOMO and time gated items

With the FANTASIAN Neo Dimension items leaving the store soon, it seems to be a good time to make a thread about this since the amount of FOMO and time-gated items in this game seems to have been increasing for the last several years.

With limited funds, and unexpected things that come up, FOMO and time gated / time limited items really just feel bad. It just gives a feeling of frustration and disengagement when items are unobtainable, whether due to lack of time, energy, or money. Getting all the FANTASIAN Neo Dimension items also costs $75 USD. Couldn't it go on sale before leaving the store? I can't afford that, let alone the fact that $75 is an absolutely insane price for a game of this price with a subscription. I know it was announced to be time limited before-hand, but I'm a bit confused as to why these are time-limited in the first place? They weren't up on the store for very long, I'm surprised they weren't permanent considering they're from a game made by Sakaguchi.

One of the main reasons I play this MMO instead of others, is because FFXIV has less of this FOMO / time gated stuff that the others do. This is great! But as more of this stuff gets added to the game it adds a lot of unnecessary stress. I quit PvP for awhile after missing the linkpearl emote because it pretty much killed whatever fun I having, only started up again recently since they finally gave the ability to buy old rewards from the vendor. Even then, a 2.5 year delay from the items disappearing to being sold in the vendor is way too long.

I'm worried about the new progression system shown for Evercold. It was mentioned it's not a battle pass, and that Yoshi. P and Koji Fox mentioned not needing to pay anything for it, which is great, but please don't put any time gated items in it for rewards. Thank you for your consideration.

It'll probably be back at some point. FF14 doesn't really have that much fomo.
It's weird for it to happen now for the Fantasian neo dimension stuff but it is what it is.

On principle, I also don't like FOMO, but since this is for an mogstation shop item I don't really care as much. If people wanted those items they could have bought them.

I'd feel worse if it was like items in the game you can obtain through gameplay - like if one day you couldn't do the monster hunter content in stormblood I'd be very upset about that.

Knowing them, though, it'll probably be back eventually. I think Fantasian is a square enix property? So it'll back in one shape or another.

Blizzard sells a few pets for $200 and I don’t see anyone complaining about that because guess what? You don’t really need those things.
They are optional for those who have free money to spend.

Having an optional items store on a pay to play MMO in the first place is just a disgusting display of corporate greed. The people here arguing about how 'you could've just bought them' seem to forget that there are more than enough players who aren't working high income, many of which are students who can afford the sub and maybe the occasional shop item, but certainly not always.

The FOMO is predatory and frankly a cheapshot considering the amount of people subbed. Looking at SE shareholder meetings, I am unsurprised.

...But also, the true BS is that events keep giving versatile housing items you physically don't have the space for (ice lofts...) to entice you to get additional retainers so that you can stock up before the items get put into the cash shop for 3.50€ a piece.

I did a quick google search and see topics on the blizzard forums with hundreds of posts complaining about $90 cash shop mounts. Perhaps you don't see it because you are on the FFXIV forums?

FWIW: I only bought Leo's Hair from the collab in the cash shop and I find it p ugly so RIP my $5 is gone.

IIRC SE published Fantasian Neo-Dim for more platforms, but they don't own the IP since it's created and owned by Mistwalker itself and we don't know if it's some unique contract that only allows a limited time sales or whatever since it's never happened before for the cash shop as everything up to this point is perma.

A lot also bought and flaunted them in the capitals, so their scheme was successful.

Glamour is a huge chunk of the reason to have fun in this game. Unfortunatly I don't have that much free money to spend, so seeing these prices in the cash shop is a bit of bummer. There have been a few I'd get if they were $5 or so, but at the prices they sell for, usually greater then $15, and lets just agree to disagree on that being an insane price, especially considering it's more then a month's worth of a subscription.

Sure, we don't really need those things, but it's still a bummer to see.

That said, I'm more frustrated with FOMO in other areas then cash shop/collab stuff, particuarly because sometimes IP rights and all that can cause these to be a limited time anyway. It happens.

Particularly would like to request a shortening of the time PvP items are unobtainable.

The new progression system that they showed at fanfest though. It's worth letting them know not to make items obtained there time gated. Assuming it'll give items as rewards. We'll see when we learn more about it. I think it's just better to provide feedback sooner rather then later so they can plan around it.
