Why lock Beastmaster behind Dawntrail?

I noticed in the fan fest beastmaster reveal that they mentioned requiring Dawntrail to play Beastmaster. Why would they lock the limited job behind an expansion? They didn’t do this for Blue mage and the job likely won’t even need to go to dawntrail areas on release because it’s launching at level 50 cap.

As someone who stopped playing after Endwalker, I planned to resub when Beastmaster launched to try out some new content. But I guess now I’ll be holding off until Blue mage gets it’s level 90 cap, unless they decide to arbitrarily lock that behind a later expansion too.

It makes sense for content released in Dawntrail to require Dawntrail, from a business perspective, since it's part of the Dawntrail patch cycle.

They make a fair amount of exceptions as it is like when they've added general features such as Bard music, gpose, Blue Mage as you mentioned, Gold Saucer and PvP updates, Adventurer Plates, etc. Or like how Cosmic Exploration is retroactively available from an Endwalker area.

From a business perspective it’s lost them a sub, so not really seeing the sense. Having the level 91-100 content locked to dawntrail, sure, because it will require dawntrail content, same with Blue mage. But releasing it at level 50 cap, likely only requiring access to ARR areas and completion of ARR story? They could have made it available from ARR especially when they already set that precedent with the previous limited job…

Beastmaster is not going to be the thing that pushes someone who didn’t buy Dawntrail into buying it. It could have been the reason someone who didn’t buy Dawntrail had a reason to re-sub.

SE probably has a better idea what pushes people to buy expansions than you do. Also, you might be the only weirdo who has a problem getting Dawntrail. You want new content? You buy the expansion. That's what it is for. You don't want new content? That's a you issue. Do they miss your subscription? Probably not enough to change a content decision just for your entitled butt.

Only caviat I'd interject about needing to own Dawntrail. When you didn't need to own Stormblood for Blue Mage is.
Back then the free trial capped at 35. (14 day trial just had been lifted)
So in essence, you DID need to buy Stormblood. Nobody was just buying ARR or HW lol

Free trial never did get the push to 50.

When Shadowbringers came out, the Free Trial finally became the "Free Trial from ARR to HW" deal.

You didn't NEED stormblood technically to gain access to Bluemage... but you weren't getting to level 50 or beating the MSQ prerequisite to get it either without Stormblood.

If you do wanna be upset that Beastmaster, which we've waited this whole expansion for is only 50 levels (And not even at least 80), and the majority of your content will be ARR while Blue Mage gets completely snubbed.

That is still a completely legit and reasonable fair response.

We knew that Beastmaster was a Dawntrail thing since before Dawntrail even came out. Every time a brand new feature comes out, regardless of how level-tied it is, you need the expansion it came out in to access it. Unless it's expanding an old feature from previous expansions.

Endwalker was a jumping off point for a lot of players as the end of the Zodiark saga. That doesn’t mean the game is instantly dead to them. Having new content available to players who dropped the game is a great way to retain subscriptions, things like PvP updates, Gold saucer and Blue Mage (whose life cycle for endwalker players is soon coming to an end). Beastmaster could have been another way to do that considering it’s going to be content entirely contained within the base game on launch and likely only go up 10 levels per update giving it some longevity until they come up with another one. Now, it’s just more Dawntrail content.

Cosmic Exploration is a level 90 quest that features leveling for crafters from level 10 and up and only requires completion of quest "Endwalker" to unlock, not even post-patch stuff. You still cannot access it if you do not have Dawntrail.
