    Feedback for maintenance buffs.

    Ever since Shadowbringers, the developers have had the bright idea of making it so that maintenance buffs can only be turned on during combat, only for players to realize that such design choice doesn't work in a game like Final Fantasy XIV, and casual players and cutscene watchers hate it when players who NEED to maintain their buffs to pull before people are done watching cutscenes, which causes the WORST KIND OF FRICTION AMONGST ALL PLAYERS, and as such players with maintenance buffs NEED A WAY TO TURN ON THEIR MAINTENANCE BUFFS OUTSIDE OF COMBAT AND DURING DOWNTIME, and Dark Knight's Darkside mechanic is the WORST OFFENDER of this design choice, which players ALREADY HATE Post-Shadowbringers Dark Knight for OTHER reasons, so might as well add one more reason to THAT LIST.

    Maintenance debuffs work in Final Fantasy XIV BECAUSE they require you to be in combat in the first place, maintenance buffs, however, CANNOT WORK THIS WAY BECAUSE OF CUTSCENES AND DOWNTIME, AND MAYBE, SOMEONE DIES ON ACCIDENT BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT. PAYING. ATTENTION. Again, Dark Knight's Darkside is the BIGGEST OFFENDER of this TERRIBLE DESIGN CHOICE, because Dark Knight needs 3,000 MP just to use an ability that does damage that REQUIRES a target just gain Darkside. Whereas OTHER jobs Require MAYBE 2 or 3 GCDs for NO MP COST OR GAUGE COST.

    So I have good news and bad news.

    This is changing in 8.0.

    Most jobs are no longer going to have buffs of any kind as part of the new combat cadence with the removal of the 2 minute buff timers.

    I was expecting party buffs that boost party damage like the one that Monk or Red Mage has to get axed, not ENTIRE KEY PARTS OF OF THE PERSONAL BURST TOOLKIT that MAY OR MAY NOT ACTUALLY BE NECESSARY to clear higher end content with strict DPS checks, because everyone knows that there is that one developer that will continue to design encounters like that, and they forgot to adjust enemy HP to account for that, because the developers seem to think "HP Sponge = Hard/Difficult + Fun" only to find out from other people that "HP Sponge = Boring + Tedious" on top of the Dark Souls school of boss design... so they better bring back DoT management if they do ax personal DPS buffs, otherwise they are going to have EVEN MORE BALANCING PROBLEMS.

    Only the 'group' damage buffs and debuffs (chain stratagem is example of a group damage debuff) are being axed. Idk what the other person is on about, but the idea is to allow every job to have its own rotation timings without 'ruining' the alignment of group DPS with party buffs. Regular self-buffs are not going anywhere, and group buffs that don't affect your DPS will still be there. In fact, it's reasonable to expect most of group buffs to be converted into just-for-yourself buff skills.

    I don't get why this really matters at all. Who's sweating over the darkside buff in roulette/msq content? Its back as soon as you pull again. You have to do the same thing for trials and normal/extreme/savage/ultimate anyways.

    This post should really be "remove darkside from the game"

    The only time it's really an issue in my experience is after a death. Getting back the necessary 3000 MP for it can feel like an eternity sometimes. I don't know why it would be an issue in downtime, MP regenerates during downtime.

    Most jobs get punished on death. It is what it is unless you want jobs to keep all of their mana or job gauge on death. They could do that, but I personally wouldnt want that.
