It's very loose if the tank states they cant handle more than x mobs then yes you are griefing if you wipe the party.Nowhere does it say they can't either. You are told, as a tank, however, to "take aggro off your ally" by the Hall of the Novice NPCs. Which implies letting the DPS die for petty reasons doesn't make for a good player.
Pulling extra mobs doesn't interfere with someone's gameplay because the intent isn't malicious. Intentionally allowing them to die, on the other hand, does.
i mean what does a tank do? a tank spams aoe and rotates through their mitigation skills. there is not much difference if there are 5 or 15 enemies... not for the tank.
the healer is the one who feels the differences the most. instead of spamming the one dmg button they will havee to heal.... so the healer should be the one to decide how much gets pulled, no?
So, when a dd is runnig and pulls grps i let him die and take the aggro from evryone besides him. I play this game 13 years now and this is how we hadel it since day 1. This WoW manners can you ceep where they belong but not in FFXIV we have good manners we say hello and Tank you we are polite to others. Ceep your bad behavior out of the Game!
Ply WoW instead where evryone pulls like an animal and people are Toxic thanks you.

"something something that's griefing! if tank's gonna do that they're bad, and fartface >>: ("
i kinda agree with the quote. the not saving part.
upon attempted, more likely scenario:
Tank: hey, i'm new so--
DPS: sprints ahead already, pulling Everything
I don't think you ever played WoW because doing that will get you killed in a matter of a second. Specially if its older expansion. So, when a dd is runnig and pulls grps i let him die and take the aggro from evryone besides him. When I play as a tank I'll rush as fast as possible. If it's an older dungeon from ARR / HW, gotta be careful because not a lot of heals on tanks at those levels + healers may not be great and fail to heal you.
If dps wants to help me by pulling mobs, I don't care. They won't die anyways and I'll just take it over. It helps. As a healer I can also pull ahead of tank if tank is extremely slow and never using sprint.
People here don't seem to realize that you don't play by the rules that someone decided to put in *your game*, you play by the behavior and how the group is going. Specially if people tried to actually talk in dungeons and not just do "hi" and pretend "yes this is how I do it after 13 years, please respect me or I won't heal". That kind of behavior leads to a kick pretty fast.

Wow, people still posting here 3 years later. My take on this, if you’re a tank in any dungeons after 50, you should not be doing any more single pulls.
This could all be solved by communicating with the group. Majority decides.

If DPS pull, they should at least bring it to the tank so the tank doesnt have to move to get aggro on that mob

"Communicating with a party that you struggle with big pulls or are a new player is not what we're talking about. We're talking about all the experienced tank players (any tank who is level 90 and not a sprout/returning player) in the game that grief the party when they are not the one who touched the mob first."
I see the point? Sort of? I don't main a tank, I main a Healer and I've been playing MMORPGs since 2006 (World of Warcraft). I get not wanting built up DPS buffs to drop off etc, but...if you pull ahead of the tank...you're the problem. It's just such a microscopic thing to wait, let the tank have their moment to sort out what they're gonna pull and to where. I've been healing too long, if a DPS pulls ahead of the tank? I don't heal them, period, I don't want the aggro on me, so if the tank doesn't grab the mob, or if the DPS was astronomically obnoxious and pulled more than one mob forcing the tank to clean up their mess when sometimes getting the aggro is more than Tank Stance can deliver in one AOE attack because the DPS just won't stop hitting the mobs? They deserve the DPS debuff they'll get from dying and as the healer...I don't deserve the aggro they create with their impatience. It's just...way too easy to wait and let the tank determine the speed of the run and the pull sizes. If you don't want to wait? Run a Tank...so so so easy and so completely guaranteed not to aggravate other players. I do agree, if you're tanking and want to take your time and work on placements and pull orders? Speak up at the beginning, let your group know you want to pull one group at a time etc...but I don't ever agree with putting pressure on a Tank by running ahead and pulling things unless they invite you to do so in advance and your healer is ready to keep your butt alive.
Healer Main, all classes at 100 and I serve everything with ample SALT
