I'll admit, I didn't know Ironmouse was a fan of FF14. Only vtuber I know of that played it was Lucy Pyre, but she quit playing it years ago. (Left during the Dawntrail exodus I think.)

I don't really follow Ironmouse myself, but as far as I know she's one of the nicer vtubers out there, so its not like having her on a panel would be problematic or anything compared to some other content creators.

There's nothing wrong with Asmongold. He is smart enough to be respectful, and he was actually part of one of the media tours and it was fine. It's unlikely now though because I think he doesn't want to deal with FFXIV, or really any long-term MMO commitment, now he's branched into variety streaming.

As far as "toxic" goes it's subjective. As long as they actually like the game it's alright. If it's someone that farms hate content that got trendy the last few years, I doubt SE would even want them there. If it's someone that actually plays and enjoys the game, it's unlikely to be an issue.

It's just a popularity stunt to get more eyes on the game I imagine, although I would have thought the overlap in audience was already larger, so I'm not exactly certain which demographic they're targeting with this.

I think some of the backlash is coming from the fact that most celebrities, no matter how big or small, can give off the impression of being a poser or phony to existing players when interacting with a community where there is no perceived link, (think Chris Pratt with the Mario movies). Playing the game for 1k hours is going to be disregarded by people who devote a lot of time to the game, and personally I don't see that as much of an accomplishment or a reason to choose her over anyone else. It's an MMO and a long running one at that, with easily 400+ hours of content in the MSQ alone, some people have been playing it for over 10 years.

Another factor to consider is that the FanFest website seems to imply she will not only be participating in the actual panel, but be providing something for the game itself, and I think some may worry that she'd be influencing the dev team at that point. I remain skeptical yet open minded, but I suspect that her mere involvement and attendance is going to be a downgrade for some at the event.

Nah wouldn't say that, he shoots from the hip. I can see where he comes from on some topics, does he have hot takes? Of course, but don't we all? As long as you learn from those takes when given overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

But he's not suited for this games audience, they need someone more sanitized. And what's more sanitized then a Vtuber?

Yeah, no kidding, anyone from Kurosanji would have been a bad idea (except maybe Scarle).

Someone like Sinder, Kirsche, Revsaysdesu, or Nuxtaku would have also been a very poor choice of vtuber.
