I would rather not see racial difference, players should be able to choose the race they want based on appearance and not later find out they are screwed out of stat difference because of the look of their character.

an incentive to roll somthing else besides Taru's and cat girls would be nice.

If I want to play a Lalafell (get it right) or Miqo'te then that's my choice, certainly isn't yours.

When they add male miqo'te, viera (possibly), female Rogedyn there will be plenty of people who will want switch to that in 2.0 or make new characters.

exactly people are rolling a race for asthitics. thats not going to net you any diversity, even more so when a game looks as good as this one.

I'd rather have people choose the race they want as opposed to the one they feel obligated to create due to bonuses. That's ridiculous and bad design. People shouldn't feel that they are gimped on some class or another just because of the race they chose, that's stupid.

I dunno about you but the group I play with is pretty diverse race wise in-game. There's at least one or two of every race/gender represented and it's not exactly a huge group. I don't feel like it's really an issue either way though, let people make what they want to make, forcing them to do otherwise is not good for anyone.

The big thing I like about this MMO is that the racial stat differences and racial abilities are virtually non-existent.

But my mind could have changed if:
a) a vanity slot for highlander/midlander males allows them to wear subligar, with the camera anchored in front of them all session long
b) lalafell didn't have the body shapes akin to a bowling ball pin, not that I'm against bowling or somehow related to my inability to Wii bowl.
c) if hyur female didn't have extensive arm flailing side to side when running, hardly felt like a fighter
d) if miqo'te female could sit like a hyur female

And since I would be sitting less since it has little/no impact on recovery, I figure it was the best way to move forward.

We can't change their minds anymore than we can get people to use Limsa and Gridania market wards.

Actually, this is a pretty cool idea, and I'm violently against anything that would force someone to pick a race they don't want just for stats and abilities. Something that is unique to each race, but can only be used extremely rarely and is only marginally powerful; it would distinguish each race, without really giving any one an advantage in a given role.

The longer the recast or the less powerful the ability, the more marginal the effect it would have in polarizing the race/role segregation. At the same time, it would give some extra flavor to the races.

That being said, I do not think it should go beyond that. Giving players incentive to choose a different race than they want to play is just wrong. I cannot tell you how many times I saw Galka WHMs actively shunned from parties in FFXI. It's not fun for them, and it's not fun for the party that has to choose between being asses or suffering from the mechanic.
