I would be up for something like a 2hr ability that each race has a choice of a few.. or something to make them different. I just dont want it to be something that would determine if you got in a party

Actually, this is a pretty cool idea, and I'm violently against anything that would force someone to pick a race they don't want just for stats and abilities. Something that is unique to each race, but can only be used extremely rarely and is only marginally powerful; it would distinguish each race, without really giving any one an advantage in a given role.

The longer the recast or the less powerful the ability, the more marginal the effect it would have in polarizing the race/role segregation. At the same time, it would give some extra flavor to the races.

That being said, I do not think it should go beyond that. Giving players incentive to choose a different race than they want to play is just wrong. I cannot tell you how many times I saw Galka WHMs actively shunned from parties in FFXI. It's not fun for them, and it's not fun for the party that has to choose between being asses or suffering from the mechanic.

My friend, I resent that. Truthfully, calling Miqo'te furry is like calling elezen males manly! One could perhaps do the stretch but it would be in fact a very large stretch!

And as you can see, I am in fact a guy playing a catgirl before you ask. I would also daresay I have sufficient knowledge to back up my claims.

I imagine you'll see more catBOYS once 2.0 comes out. But who knows, maybe the guys playing Miqo'tes would still prefer their aesthetics to playing something that represents their true gender. It is a game so you should play what makes you happy.

The race bonus actually caused the opposite to occur for me in FFXI

I picked Mithra because I intended on being a THF. Eventually I switched to WHM because THF couldn't get any parties and then BST because Mithra are the awesomest looking BSTs.

Anyway. I fell in love with the furry little creatures and I couldn't imagine being anything else.

It does raise the point though: People seem hardpressed against racial bonuses yet almost every other MMO out there have a Racial Bonus or Class Bonus of some kind and no one complains unless it's utterly overpowered.

I actually stopped playing World of Warcraft, mostly because I was bored with it, but also because I couldn't play an undead hunter/tauren warlock/etc.

I don't mind minor stat changes, honestly. It's going to be 3 points or so extra on one stat or something. So long as something like a Roegadyn WHM isn't taboo, like it was when FFXI first came out.
