Context: It's been reported today that Square Enix is adding Google Gemini "AI" features to Dragon Quest X. ( https://mynintendonews.com/2026/03/2...ragon-quest-x/ )

I've been playing consistently since Stormblood was launched, I consider myself an active player and serious fan of the game. I take time off of work for new expansion releases, I have commissioned fanart, I've written fanfiction, and my wife's and my characters are Eternally Bonded. Thank you to the entire development team and staff for creating such a wonderful and vibrant world.

However, if Square Enix announces that any generative "AI" features are planned to be added, I will unsubscribe, uninstall the game, and attempt to move on with my life. I don't want to do that, but I consider it a serious ethical stance, upon which I am unwilling to compromise. Large language models and other generative technologies are based on mass scale plagiarism, and have had extremely negative repercussions for society such as promoting suicide ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_linked_to_chatbots ) and advancing the spread of misinformation, frequently political.

As a fan and player of Final Fantasy XIV, I am begging Square Enix and the FFXIV staff to avoid integrating any such features into the game.

Agreed, and I'm on the fence about the idea of custom WoL figures if they use genAI or not for them if so then I'd never buy one since I'm a genAI hater forever.

I don't. SE has the means to properly voice their quest, they just refuse to do it. I wish we had fully voiced content, but not through AI. This fucking game is producing half of SE benefits, so using AI voicing would be a terrible message. Especially since localisation and dubbing are part of the things that SE always tried to do correctly since the subpars FFVII translation back in the days. Voice acting and translation are one of the few place where SE continued to do thing well, in the vast majority of cases.

Firstly, they are well aware of this perception of AI. They clearly are not using it for development, because if they were, they'd not be struggling to keep up with demand for a lot of things that we are requesting. I cannot begin to tell you how much time AI saves for programmers. Something that would take 24 hours - or even 1-4 weeks, can be done in like an hour of team debugging with AI, and it can find most flaws with code very quickly for you, including the very difficult, hard to find bugs. The most important thing is that a programmer fully reads, understands and manually debugs/improves any code that is generated so that it is to the same standard as if they'd written it.

Secondly, not all uses of AI are the same. It can be used in good ways, and in my opinion, it is arrogant to say otherwise. It is like saying a knife can't be used in good ways ie. to cut a sandwich or a cake.

Thirdly, they have confirmed they are going to use it to speed up Quality Assurance. Currently, a lot of QA work is spent running at walls to find gaps where they need to add invisible walls. AI can automate this tedious, boring and repetitive task.

There is enough entertainment on this planet created by the imaginations of real people prior to the opening of the AI pithos to keep me and my descendants nourished for many lifetimes. I will not turn to or support something that has relied on unethical farms full of electricity-consuming monkeys owned by greedy men who have no humanity of their own to show.

I couldn't care less. I don't want an LLM chat companion in a game I pay for.
