being in party finder really shows me why MMOs are dying

So it's Saturday, sitting here in pf waiting for a party to fill.
Has been 3 hours, the party filling once and after one pull it all broke apart, back to waiting.

You know I can't even blame kids for not getting into MMOs. It's like that Squidward meme.
Seeing the kids outside queue Fortnite matches back to back.
Meanwhile I sit here on a Saturday in pf for the last 3 hours waiting, wondering why I'm still doing this.

Lots of people in their 20s are getting into this game, so the idea that only old people play this is not true. The age range is pretty balanced across ages. Sometimes when I'm raiding I realize in voice "these people are in their early 20s". I see it in my FC and NN. When there's a discussion about this, people in discord servers usually mention how they are in their early 20s. I see it anywhere that people introduce themselves.

If I were to guess why, FF7R, FF16 and then remasters will have done a lot to remind young generations that Final Fantasy exists, while others are probably trying to find the one game without the F2P model and pay to win. Word of mouth and YouTubers are pretty powerful as well though.

The whole idea that MMOs are dying is questionable as well, because in raw numbers the figure has grown. It reduced as a percentile, but that's because in 2007 the internet got flooded with "non-computer nerds". It's still the case that a significant amount of actual "computer nerds" play MMORPGs. Then you have to get into a discussion about what counts as an MMO, because we have mobile MMOs, we have a whole live service genre (with millions and millions of players) that could be construed as forms of an MMO. SE likes to advertise that over 30 million characters have been made, and even accounting for alts and spam accounts, that's still a lot.

Usually if PF doesn't fill, there is a good reason for it:
1. It's not peak hours.
2. Not many people are interested in the content or it's old content.
3. Maybe they don't routinely PF that specific content type.
4. If it's peak hours, sometimes there are 200+ PFs so it's buried on another page, and nobody will see it.

With reset happening on a Tuesday, depending on if the content you're trying to do has a weekly lockout. If it does (like current tier savage) most people probably already got their weekly rewards this late into the reset.

i remember clearing ex fights by duty finder during HW as wee sprout, before mentor thing.
people were mostly pretty patient and helpful.

Go to Aether. Pretty much all raiders have congregated to one data center.you wont fill a party in pf on crystal, dynamis, or primal

Because no one would sign up for them other than clueless sprouts and mentors being dragged into them and most ppl prefer to do MINE in PF or on discord to save everyone some time and effort.

Also, keep in mind we're like over 2 months into the Savage raid season, and most groups have cleared everything and are not doing much until the next Ult's release.

Because people queue up for them not knowing what a "tank swap" is, not knowing how to do a rotation, not knowing what pots are, not knowing what a clock spot is. PF makes people anxious to join because a party leader could kick them, and this pressures those people to do their research first and actually be prepared for the content.

I cleared Bismarck ex and Ravana ex in Duty Finder in Heavensward.

Then I tried to clear Sophia ex. I consistently would get up to the tankswap and the OT would never provoke it off me. Knowing they weren't provoking, I invuln'd. Then the invuln ran out and I died. Like it's clearly a tankswap and they weren't swapping, and they weren't learning from this obvious issue, so clearing was virtually impossible for me in Duty Finder. I tried so, so many times and every tank couldn't do it; they couldn't provoke. Maybe they didn't even have it (cross-class).

That's a good question. JP does reclear mostly in Duty Finder and makes the most sense to me since it would be the easiest way.

To be fair, even without toxic hardcore players I still wouldn't be touching hardcore content because its outside my skill level, and I'm not logging in to waste other people's time.
