Routing Issue: High Latency from Australia to OCE Data Center (Aussie Broadband)

    Hello,

I’m experiencing consistently higher ping than usual when connecting to the OCE servers from Australia (Aussie Broadband). Normally my latency is ~50-70 ms, but for the past several weeks it has been stuck around ~145 ms unless I use a VPN, which restores the normal latency.

Good morning adventurer and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

Please try the following troubleshooting suggestions as it may help resolve the issue:

Open the control panel of the PC and go to ‘Network and Internet’. Once there select ‘Internet Options’
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
    - Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
    - Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
    - Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
*Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game

Check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

    - Try disabling background applications and do a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the “Start up” tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.
    - Lastly, we suggest to power cycle the device and router by shutting down the Router and leaving the power supply unplugged for 5-10 minutes.

    - Flush DNS: Within the "Command Prompt" of the device, please type the command "ipconfig /flushdns".
    - Reset TCP/IP: Also within the Command Prompt, type the command "netsh int ip reset" and then restart the computer.
    - Change local DNS: Please try changing the local DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    - Delete local files with corrupted character data, please note this will not delete the associated characters.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Hi Glygnello Thank you for replying

I've done all that im still getting high ping. i've reach out to my ISP AussieBB they said

Our networking team has ran a internal traceroute from our bng's and so far we have not been able to identify a issue there.

To be able to look into this further we now need a reverse trace-route to show the latency and path on the way back.

This will need to be obtained from the server host the other way. While i do not the ways to reach out to Square Enix myself here is a link to what i could find online in regards to contacting them, Although as i can be wrong i do also suggest double checking this and making sure they don't have a different support them themselves better suited

I am going to add onto this with a coincidental observation that I seem to have noticed today a few minutes ago from my post.

My usual ping to Oce is roughly 70-120 ping with variance depending on traffic, recently, it is higher than both NA and EU at 280. I wasn't playing at the time but was staring at it wondering why has it been so high recently while I remained on the JP datacenters. My ping to NA and EU are 150-200 which is normal.

The second incident that coincidentally occurred while I was staring at my connection to OCE, was multiple people suggesting they've been booted out of the NA servers temporarily leading to a 400+ queue at roughly 1:48 AM - 1:54 A.M. UTC +0 1/232/2026 , I somewhat think a node blew up but the coincidence of a sudden loss of connection temporarily on OCE's end into NA to a similar situation.

It is a coincidence that I manage to see such a thing between NA and OCE servers.

I've noticed a general increase of ping as well to the NA servers. Playing from NZ i've been sitting at about 150ms for a few months and suddenly it's jumped up higher than what it was before (220), to 330. I only noticed the change when I logged in last saturday, and I was raiding the night prior at 150.

Out of curiosity, I went to OCE to check how my ping's faring there, Last I played was at 30ms or so, back when it first dropped in endwalker, and it seems to have stayed that way. Seems OCE connections are just up in the air in general though, given Nero-kan and Inanegrain's responses.

    Also getting error 9000, 9002

Also getting disconnection from the servers since patch. I have to use Exitlag or I will not stay logged in for more than 5 minutes.

Unfortunately Superloop uses the same undersea cables but our support refused to do a traffic route change because the repairs are "Out of our hands". Maybe I should just pay the premium and swap to AB.
