"Raiding not being gear gated" what does this mean?

    What does this mean?
Or what's the wider context here?

Because gear gating (as I understand it to mean), is why I missed all the opportunities to get into savage back at 7.0 first tier, and is why there is no engaging content left to do after just 1 day of free play after a 4/5 month break. (Discounting DT deep dungeon, because its already dead)

(I can't bare day after day of casual roulettes anymore, that just want to wall to wall it, untuned ARR alliances, multiple weeks on end, while I get tome gear and normal raid gear sufficient to join Ex PFs that will actually fill. Same would apply to savage, furthermore id get kicked in 2 minutes at min ilvl)

(back for the free 4 days. M1, M2, M3 were great. Monster hunter normal trial was amazing. But until X-DC PF is implemented and the casual game is invested in, there is no point in making new social contacts that will leave again, so while I've had fun re-running instances until I've got one piece of gear, I'm done after a day, and I've no reason to sub for even a full week.)

All content in XIV is gear-gated, since minimum item level is a thing.

However, due to the way gear progression works, the barrier of entry is nearly non-existent, assuming you have, idk, 2-3 million in the pocket, which is not an insurmountable amount by any stretch, you can walk up to the marketboard and get yourself a full set of Courtly Lover's, iLvl 770 better than the overwhelming majority of gear available in the game, and that's all you genuinely need to start raiding, more than that helps, absolutely, but if you just want to prog, learn the fights, so on, you are ready for it, and hopefully it will snowball from there, assuming you have the chops for it.

This is what this person probably meant, that the ease of access to the baseline gear of each patch is low, you don't have to spend days to weeks getting stepping stone gear that will be immediately replaced until you are baseline ready, as soon as you beat Queen Eternal and start unlocking the raids, you can skip directly to the baseline of that patch.

    Hope that perspective helps.

Yeah, gear is quite easy to get hold of. One thing to note that may be useful to consider is potentially seeing if you can find a static that would suit your needs. You'd likely want a beginner friendly static. Could be a good way to tackle some of the harder content. Though you may have to converse with the static leader to explain the situation. I for example am a static leader. Although as this is the final Savage tier of the expansion, it may be a bit more difficult to get a static.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Usually it's more gear gated by the community than the game itself as people set the pf so that you need savage gear to do savage.

Every MMO has a gear level requirement to get into certain activities, this game is no exception.

Raiding is absolutely gear gated, that's the whole point behind gear. You try queueing for high level content with lv.99 artifact gear and see how that goes for you.

The main difference between FFXIV and other MMOs is that raiding-capable gear is easier for the layman to come across, either through crafting or just shelling out gil.

The gear gating isn't very much compared to other games, especially since if you can just grab a set of the latest crafting gear you're fine for the majority of the difficult content to prog.

    I think this does help.
(From my recollection of 7.0 first tear I'd strongly dispute 2 million,)
but if it 'were' 2 million, which I accept it might be now, then that's close to insignificant. (Assuming something like DC move hasn't bankrupted you >:-( ) )
At which point yeah. Maybe, from a certain point of view, great isn't gated. Im gonna have to assume pentameld isn't a community expectation though, and it's meld as you can. Or it's heavily gated.

    I appreciate it.

Gonna have come back to that price though as an itch, I looked at crafted, back when I tried to join session and my main's role was taken and I suddenly had to gear an alt job from nothing. It was not possible then.

But I've no longer got enough authority to dispute the facts I'm given. I'm too out of it.

Irrespective of price, I can see how crafted from a certain point of view, can qualify as ungating content.
Still think it would be low fruit to allow normal raids to enable uncapped non BiS gearing into savage. Just add two types of gear to normal drops one you have to grind for... 6 weeks? 8 weeks? is it?! And one non BiS you don't.

If this is the reality, then that's the only reality that matters.
I can say it's what killed my interest in Extreme when I came back for the last free login. I'd had to have hosted my own PFs, and after sitting in Cloud PFs waiting for them to fill, and the arguments I gave up trying to mediate during Rose Ex4, wasn't inclined to either lead or sit in a slow filling PF period.

Yeah that was the "context" I was expecting people to site.

Its a lot easier to feel cool about it now it's just thought exercises. I can just accept anything/everything because I want to.
