New glamour system ruined the way I glamour

I've been disappointed in this game for the first time ever recently, with the 7.4 glamour update and I hope I'm not the only one..

Before 7.4 I've been able to make each of my job outfits unique by glamouring on a piece of Job specific gear. For example, I could glamour a Dragoon only helm on to a DRG/RPR helm and the Dragoon helm would only show when I was on my Dragoon job. I was able to do this with all of the armor sets, making all jobs look slightly different and match their job aesthetic.

Now, that's all gone and I'm bummed out every time I upgrade my gear and realize that I can't do this one thing anymore.

I don't think that the glamour update should be reverted or anything because most people seem to be very happy with it...but what am I to do for my character..?

I've tried making Glamour plates in the armoire but some rare pieces of gear don't go in to it yet. Additionally, glamour plates can only be changed in a sanctuary. I play everything and change jobs all of the time. I want my glamours to update with them.

Even more than that, glamour plates and the portrait system don't seem to match. I have job portraits for each job and anytime a glamour is changed, it breaks those portraits. Mixed and broken systems.

Would it be possible to make the 7.4 glamour changes an optional toggle?

Could the 7.4 glamour changes only be applicable with glamour plates? Leaving the old system alone?


Sadly, I guess I'll just have to deal with this change since I don't think they'll actually reverse any of these changes..

You could assign different glamour plates to different jobs so that your glamour changes when you switch. You're short, I think, 2 plates to every job in the game (currently) but supposedly we're getting more after they release the housing update they keep pushing back.

You can make your glamour plates not set a headgear, and then glam over specific items directly (not using the Glamour Dresser).

Or as the above suggested, assign a different glamour plate to each job.

I didn't have any outfits ruined. I did have some fun accidents that I actually enjoyed and considered making glams before that now won't happen. Also used to randomly hit a bunch of glam plates and see what goofiness came out. I think it's a small price to pay for the giant benefit we gained.

I haven't found that my glam plates break my portraits unless the plate includes a weapon for a job that isn't the job on the current portrait (for instance, I have a shared PLD/DRK glam with PLD weapons on the plate--the DRK portrait ALWAYS breaks). Then there seems to be no fixing it, that portrait will never work right.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work. Yes, not enough job plates but also, you have to be in a sanctuary to change glamour plates. So, changing jobs out in the field will not update your glamours.

On top of that. It changes the glamour for the OTHER job which breaks portraits that I have saved.

Are you switching jobs using gearsets? My gear sets remember my glams so long as I updated them after changing my look. You can also link a glamour plate to a gearset, particularly helpful for when you play multiple jobs in the same role. I’m mainly on SMN, but if I link glam plates to the other casters it will change automatically when I equip the job.

Now like you say, if I’m out in the field, and I switch to BLM, I’ll still be wearing my SMN outfit. But if I’m switching to a totally different role like DNC for instance, it will be the last thing my DNC wore and saved to the gearset, so I can have glams set up in advance before I go out adventuring. lol

But definitely not enough plates… should be bare minimum one for every job: battle, crafting, gathering and limited.

I am. I have each portrait tied to a gear set, same as I've had since portraits came out. It just seems to me that the recent change had glamour plates in mind, but not regular glamouring or portraits. And if they ARE having glamour plates in mind, then we definitely need more than 20 of them.

usually if you put that glamour plate on and it has a wep for a different job. It should jstu say certain thigns are restricted due to gender, race, or equipment. I could be wrong and they changed it in 7.4

Yeah, it says that. But it makes the portrait with that glam pretty much impossible to fix because the weapon is always wrong. For some reason, I can never get the weapon on the portrait to return to the correct glam, even if I manually glam it with a prism. The portrait will always pick up some outdated weapon glam. I'm sure there's some way I could finesse it, but it's really not worth the effort.
