I really don't know what to think about the changes to Dzemael.

On one hand, this dungeon was a major pita when you got into a group with a tank or healer who was both clueless and did not read chat. I think I left more hopeless groups in this one dungeon alone than all other dungeons combined.

On the other hand, what we have now is the same old sleeping pill as any other homogenized dungeon. Boss flies into the middle, casts circles, circles explode, rinse repeat. /yawn/

I'm not a game designer, but there should be some middle ground between "nobody gets it" and "everything everywhere all the same".

Honestly with old Darkhold the bosses weren't even the trouble--it was the trash that was kind of annoying because most healers didn't know what Esuna was.

And most tanks didn't understand the crystals.

But seriously, Darkhold was annoying as it was, I don't think there was anything particularly special about it only that you had to stop in the purple during the first section. Ok big deal, that barely qualifies as a mechanic and the rest of the dungeon was essentially left untouched, they only removed the gate nodes. I don't really see the issue here, and like others have already mentioned it's likely that these changes don't even have anything to do with Duty Support but rather SE just wanting to update the dungeon in general. Also keep in mind this is one of the very early dungeons in the game overall, being an ARR dungeon, so it kinda makes sense they'd want it to be easier than it was before where lot of parties would wipe just because people didn't understand what to do.

Example, I liked running it in Shadowbringers because I was getting back into Tanking after having stopped doing so for over a year and allowed me to get my confidence back. I'm all for the Trust/Duty Support system actually. The problem isn't that it exists, the problem is that it's used as a scapegoat for the scorched earth the devs have been doing over older content and dungeons.

    Yes to Duty Support.
No to the absolute homogenization that's been ravaging older dungeons.

TBH we've all had fun with AV and DD for a decade now, and it's time for them to revamp them for new players. I mean, can anyone truly say og tam tara was the best dungeon in all the game in 2025? Yeah, I totally loved the slow debuffs I got in leveling rous really made my entire day

Without the Duty Support/Trust systems a lot of people wouldn't even make it through the MSQ due to a lack of players, either due to low population or a general lack of interest in doing older content from veterans.

While they SHOULD just make variants of dungeons designed for NPCs while leaving the original dungeons intact, they should also be making NPC versions of all MSQ trials, and even Crystal Tower, while leaving the originals in the roulettes to do with other players.

It's not impossible to have both things without impacting the other, Square-Enix just doesn't want to put in the effort.

    thing with this ..
DEvs are now ruining this. we can now survive mechs in the trust system dungeons we should not be able to survive. they should give us the option
as a person who used trust to learn the mechs so i wouldnt be a burden to my group.. i cant do this anymore.. i can learn the mechs mildly but i learn by seeing i take dmg. i survive.. i wont learn

I hated "Dzemael Darkhold" so much. :3 If it is less annoying now then it is an improvement.

    Cheers

The best thing they could do for Dzemael Darkhold (and Aurum Vale, for that matter) would be to fill them in with concrete and pretend they never happened.
