This is the only MMO game that this happens to. I honestly don't believe it's DDoS at this point but just bad hardware at the hosting company and they don't want to replace it because it would eat into their profits a tiny bit.

Dumb question from a clueless EU player - does travelling to OCE mitigate this issue at all, or are you guys still DCing all over the place?

During the previous DDoS 'season' back in early november, I and half of my FC tried going to OCE on some days. It was okay for the most part. Interestingly enough, there was actually two days where a severe lag spike happened in OCE, and an actual DDoS over there. Both happened not long after NA side got DDoS'd. People were joking that it's probably to DDoS those who fled to OCE as soon as NA went down lmfao xD
So I guess I'd say.. yes, it does mitigate the disconnection at the very least, to an extent. It's still silly that you have to arbitrarily limit your access to some features just to avoid DDoS.

Indeed, it's dumb... but at least to be able to do your MSQ uninterrupted and some basic activities... it might be worth to try your luck over there, even if the ping is worse.
Yeah it's curious to me that people will chalk it up to a bad node in the middle of nowhere when no other service (that I use, anyway) has been having these issues.
I'd bet they downgraded some hosting service or moved to some cost saving equipment and now it's screwing them.

I don't buy the hardware failure theory for the very simple reason that "company cutting corners when it comes to mitigating cyberattacks" is just a bad coverup. Plus, folks have managed to find DDoS tracking that hits Sacramento at the same times we've had the outages.
It is very likely that the attack is targeting the NTT node, not squenix servers themselves. This is backed up by the fact that very often during these waves there will be swaths of players on PSN or a certain ISP who do not get booted or vice versa (I've been in parties where only half of us get booted several times). However since NTT is what they rely on for JP servers, it seems squenix is either unwilling or contractually unable to switch providers as a means of resolving the issue. Either way they should seriously reconsider their reliance on NTT in NA, this has been an ongoing issue for quite some time and offloading the responsibility to ISP is clearly not working.Once upon a time I saw a real time map that monitors DDoS attacks around the globe. I wonder if it's still out there...?
(searches)
Oh hey look it's still around! https://www.netscout.com/ddos-attack-map
If you click on the one around Sacramento, you can see the details. We're getting ass blasted by a node in Poland. But that's just the final hop before it hits us - those botnets are sourced from around the globe before they smack the Sacramento data center.
Because that's what a DDoS is - a distributed denial of service attack. A thousand virus laden machines getting turned into a weaponized firehose of data packages.

Having to wait a few milliseconds for the NPC to begin talking isn't the end of the world, imo... much better than not being able to talk to them at all.
I played with 250+ ms ping for years (playing on EU server from across the ocean) so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it really isn't that bad, getting killed in casual content is pretty hard nowadays!

Not being able to single/double weave as intended hurts your fun. I dislike doing any battle contents in periods where those aren't possible because they feel extremely horrible, even moreso when it's in PvP.Having to wait a few milliseconds for the NPC to begin talking isn't the end of the world, imo... much better than not being able to talk to them at all.
