Because there is a need for it, whether it becomes pointless or not would depend on how good the content is, not on the idea and system itself.

Also, It is unnecessary to include Lalafell and the twins as options, and I think it's possible for players who want the system to agree with it.

I bileve It's not a bad or strange idea for an MMO to have a romance system.
Games like Warframe and SWTOR have them, and they're both popular.

Although I agree that unfairness should be minimized, it's difficult to add something that everyone likes.
For example, while some players don't like raiding and others don't care about the writing and the stories, we pay the same amount of money. Every change XIV made cost resources, which were paid by players who wanted them and who didn't.
I think as long as the romance wouldn't be forced to players who don't want, and not hurt their headcanon, I think it's fine to consider the addition of the romance.
The dev has been working to make the game fair for all players, so I bileve it isn't impossible.

It seems like a good chance to make content for RPers, casual players, or even people who didn't play MMOs but are interested in the characters. Maybe they could add companion quests like regular RPGs and some MMOs, where protagonists learn more about characters or help them solve problems.

it should be completely optional and wouldn't go beyond friendships. After that, players can choose to unlock a romantic scene, which ought to be optional and not included in the MSQ.
In that case, players wouldn't be forced into unwanted romance with NPCs, and it wouldn't bother NPC shipping.
I believe it might also be beneficial to characters who don't have enough development, like Y'shtola.
We wanted Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley.

    Instead we got Farmville.

the issue with island san it should have came with an insta house/ allowed us to costumize it more than they did the same issue the warlords of draynor had with peoples home bases is they didnt put enough into it honestly.. when what it should have been was we get our house like housing zones plot we pay gil to upgread stays, and build a town/civilization the way we want it. That should have came with a market board as well

Ah, once I got the thing done, though, it's been so easy to use to get most of the rare dyes that it's almost funny. Once I realized how I can have all the cherry pink I want, completely changed my WoL to look way more like I actually always wanted her to look, all the black and hot pink I could desire. Can even get the coveted gunmetal black dye.

But I think we got so wrapped up in the idea it was going to be the answer to housing's limitations and it just isn't that in practice, despite allowing outdoor decoration and the main building having sections meant to be our "room." I think if we could insta teleport to it like we can actual houses and apartments, it'd be a little different. I mean, we can even hang out with each other on them, but NO ONE DOES!

Also, apparently Yoshi-P loves this shit. The planning, the resource management, the spreadsheets. It's his jam.

Put some respect on Farmville, it was more fun that spreadsheet simulator (summer skin edition)!

(Now I'm getting PTSD over trying to keep Karen and Cliff around in various Harvest Moon games, lol.)

Ranaa is in Kugane, on the bridge near the Aetheryte. Her dialogue hasn't changed since Endwalker, though.

I gave it some thought, but this WOULD be possible with the main cast if the Devs do choose to "retire" them.

If it's relegated to a fun side quest series, and the characters only pop in the MSQ here and there, that would mean the devs could give us those extra romantic events without it potentially damaging or severely limiting the main story or becoming too complex with having to write so many extra layers of text or cutscenes if you're hitched with a fellow Scion or former leader character.

But honestly I would expect small things like, if you hook up with Urianger, you find him hanging in your inn rooms with a few items scattered around that are his stuff. Like a telescope, and some astronomy charts. He'd have a few bits of dialogue reflecting current events if he's found there. When you hop in bed he climbs in, too, and when you wake up he gets out with you.

That kind of stuff. The kind of thing you usually start seeing in the sim games that have relationships.

All our WoL does is fight and have dialogue lines related to fighting and solving problems. It's gotten so stale. Run to here, kill that, find this. The end. There is no love, not even friendship. Our WoL isn't close to anyone. There's people who don't need that, but there's people who do like that. So yeah, I'd also like to see a relationship system in XIV, both romantic and friendship. How to include it in the game? It's daunting, I'll admit. I would incorporate it in the full range of quests, including MSQ, on the condition that it is entirely optional and avoidable.

Three things should be implemented then. First of all, something in our character options to either enable or disable flirty/romantic and/or friendship dialogue altogether. That way people who don't like this content never have to be confronted with it. Second, if such dialogue is enabled, those lines have to be very clearly identifiable, with a specific symbol like a heart for example. Same goes for optional sidequests that could be the result of dialogue choices made. Lastly, if the romance or friendship doesn't work for you or you initiated it by mistake, you should be able to abandon it entirely.

Dealing with people comes with risk; with NPCs, it doesn't.
