Has the dev team take accountability for the failure of Dawntrail?

What do you expect them to do more than they already have? Make some sort of announcement decrying how disappointing Dawntrail was, apologize profusely and vow to never do it again? The reality is while Dawntrail undoubtedly fell short of expectations, particularly with the MSQ, it's still far above a complete disaster that would necessitate any sort of apology. Regardless, they have responded to some feedback throughout the patch cycles. Is it enough? That's entirely debatable. For some people, it is. For others they want to see more sweeping changes that wouldn't happen outside an expansion.

None of that is to say we shouldn't continue to voice our critique of Dawntrail. I have plenty. But we're not owed any sort of "accountability" response. You may not like it, but the only recourse going forward is to unsubscribe. A significant loss in revenue echoes much louder than any forum or reddit thread ever will.

All of this. They have addressed some feedback. They mentioned it in interviews and Live Letters. They heard the pushback against patches that were just hardcore or casual. They introduced PT with the idea that they're trying to put in something for everyone. Maybe they aren't responding as fast as some would like, but they are responding. They have acknowledged they need to do better. If it's not enough, then like ForteNightshade said, the way to speak is with your wallet.

No point. I'm tired of devs making public apologies instead of just improving the game.

Dawntrail is seriously not their worst work anyway. It's way better than stormblood in terms of story and characters, the 24 man raid is the best since ivalice, the 8 man's have been more enjoyable than pandemonium for me so far. The pacing in stormblood 4.0 patch was awful. The jumps between gyr abanias story and othards story was super jarring.

Zenos is generic combat lusting shonen rival for our Mc. Yotsuyu was a far more compelling character but her story was shoved into the 4.x post patches.

Dawntrail suffers from a bad villain, wuk lamat and a story that jumps plots before one can feel significant.

The Alexandria plot really should have been saved for the post patches because it made the entire dawn servant trial arc feel rushed. We had a black screen for the cooking contest, wuk lamat didnt spend enough time with her people to feel convincingly grown from experience. Wuk lamats dialog is full of fluff and every time they tried make her cute and endearing they just made her look stupid. Zoralja just assassinated his entire character half way thru the story. He was always a hot headed warmongerer but he had a semblance of honor and intelligence. He was more ignorant than wuk to believe he could conquer a world that's more technologically and magically advanced than his entire continent. Even with Alexandrian tech his entire air force was barely more potent than one of garlemalds super airships.vrtra bodied most of his fleet while an imperial ship had enough fire power to defeat shiva.

Honestly Dawntrail is really stupid but atleast it wasn't boring like the non othard half of stormblood. The zones are diverse in aesthetic, the wachumeqimeqi stories and arcadion stories are really cool, there were some great characters like galoolja senior, Otis, and koana.

Conversely, I GREATLY prefer Stormblood to Dawntrail, but primarily because I was actually invested in what was happening when stuff did actually happen. But I agree, Yotsuyu, and Fordola, were vastly superior villains than Zenos, but even he got a good pay off in Endwalker. SB's pacing is abysmal, but even the golden children of HW and ShB have massive sections that drag. It's an issue FFXIV just has in sections.

As far as I'm concerned, Zoraal Ja was a damn tragedy in writing with how utterly bungled he was. He's an overpowered genetic miracle of a prince that has horrific self-worth and daddy issues that only values personal power (because that's all he has), but then we meet his siblings and said daddy and they're decent, good natured and loving people that just seem at a loss over Zoraal Ja being like that. I mean, for goodness sake, the most interesting thing about him was the whole storyline about how he only has a son because some absolute psychopath of a woman that stalked him for years attempted to baby-trap him. Which all happened in the MSQ after he died.

Imagine if the deal with Galool Ja Ja realized he messed up his true son so badly that he adopted two random children and put them through the ringer and pressed us Scions to speed-run their growth before he inevitably dies of old age and the kingdom is given over. The contest is just to make every thing look and feel legit instead of disowning Zoraal Ja and causing a cue because he's somehow popular with the people. And THAT'S when Zoraal Ja takes over Alexandria and raises hell.

I can bemoan DT forever but the moment it swapped to being all about the real Sphene in 7.2, it was such a stark jump in thought and care because of Endless Sphene having such a good set-up and the real one just being genuinely good as her own character. And that doesn't even account the little improvements and additions to gameplay and design. 7.3 is the best MSQ chunk we've had since base EW by a country mile.

Seriously. Actually having JRPG stuff in 7.3 after DT seemed scared of it when it was in the whole game previously and being MAD about it boggles me.

I believe this video speaks volumes about how we players feel today regarding the Development (of the game). And certainly, with the 'rebirth' of FFXIV, you managed to achieve what is mentioned in this video.

If you can't see the difference in tone and writing between Hydaelyn sundering the world and walking in the dark and what we had for the 7.3 finale, I don't know what to tell you. Go play jRPGs, like idk, the actual FF franchise in its golden days? You'd be surprised.
