Hmm... starting a new character to experience the 2.0 content? Great idea.. especially if the story quest is not available to people who've capped all their classes.

I really don't think Musketeer will go to Red Mage. Corsair is a possibility but so is Cannoneer, Chemist and Gun Mage. Given Corsair was in XI so everyone will probably want it, just thinking of the other possibilities from the Tactics and other series.I think it will be 2-3 new classes.
If they release Arcanist on its own, we will see a glut of ppl all leveling one class, and thus it will be very difficult to get PTs together. FFXI never released a job on its own.. they were always done in multiples for this reason.
However...
If they release a new class simultaneously with 2.0 (the final release - not beta), then there will be an influx of new players and it might work out ok..
But I still think we will see at least 2-3 new classes with the following priority: (**The jobs listed are what I would personally like to see)
- Arcanist > Time Mage
- Scout > Thief
- Musketeer > Corsair/Gambler (or outside chance Red Mage)
After that people will want a pet class, so we'll get "Tamer > Beastmaster" or "Evoker > Summoner"

It probably won't, but it's an interesting thought.
I do know that I am pining for musketeer like no one's business. I truly truly hope it's one of the first classes put in.
Man I need 2.0.
My main concern is that the "job" system be better integrated into the lore than it is now. It all feels rather duck-taped on at the moment.
I mean, Ul'dah really doesn't feel like a paladin town to me.
At any rate, add ninja, because there just aren't enough "X is a better tank than Y" arguments on the boards.

Musketeer into Red Mage could work (with gunblades maybe??), but I think that the Chemist route is by far the best:
Class: Musketeer Weapon: Pistols. Class abilities grant bonuses to using potions and items. Has special abilities to enhance potency or add AOE effects to potions, Can Combine/Mix potions. Has ability that boosts attack power and reduces acc with each successive hit..( resets upon a miss). Cross-class abilities: Ranged Acc bonus, Medicate (use potion on pt member), Purge (remove all food/medicine effects)>> Job Gambler - Gambler uses dice for random damage that cuts through all armor and defense -- doubles can grant additional effects. Trait randomly allows item to not deplete when used. Uses card based buffs(eg. FFXI Corsair) that enhance shots to grant enfeebling, elemental or even healing and enhancing attacks to their shots - Has slot machine 15min ability (ala Setzer or FF7 Cait Sith)

I'd just like to see them be more general with classes as a whole. To me the best way to make both jobs and classes useful is to allow classes to do all possible roles (that make some sense) and allow classes to do a signle role from that class better.
For instance adding skills and perks (or just better cross class useage) That would let:
A Lancer DD or Tank Or support (buffs of some sort)
A Gladiator Tank or DD
A Conj DD or heal
A THM DD or Debuff or (heal?)
Etc.
Then Jobs would Focus one a single aspect from that class:
Lancer DD specialized = Dragoon
Lancer Tank specialized = ??? (maybe a long-staff user who defends with parries) Or (a Short spear user whom also carries a shield for defence)
What this would help with is the issue of:
Lancer = DD + some cross class skills
Dragoon = DD + D (Triple Ds?) all in all more damage output)
Now the bonus of comming as a Lancer is the ability to maybe off-tank a bit. DD a bit and be a stronger situational class then just plugging Raise and Cure on your ability list.
The other bonus of having more multi purpose classes is that people can more often play the class-jobs style they like.
And if the mechanics of some new fights with this system in mind could make having an on-call off-tank for adds that can still do ok DD. Not better DD then a Dragoon, not better anking then a real tank job. but the versatility of having some of it all.
I think thats kind of what they were after with cross class skills. But its devolved into a Raise/cure/Sentinel/Rampart type system for most situations.
This type of thing will also allow you multiple Jobs off a single class without having multiple DD jobs of a DD class, which is pointless aside from aestetics.
I would love to have Dark Knight join XIV, starting from a great sword class (boo scythe). Even though DoW does out number DoM my vote goes for DRK![]()
Start DRK from BTN!
