    Weird error messages

    Good morning, all!

    Wanted to post on behalf of my twin sister, as she has been running into an issue while playing the game. Quite consistently (not sure how many times yet), she will get a pop-up from the game and a string of codes that reads:

    An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.

    Her PC is not even a month old, as she upgraded from a gaming laptop. I have also been playing the game for over two years now, and have never encountered this error, and I am also on a gaming PC.
    Does anyone know what might be causing this issue, and how it could be potentially fixed? If you need any more information, such as how many times it happens, etc, please let me know, and I can rally it to her. So far, I have posted on the FFXIV Reddit page, as well as submitted a tech support ticket on the FFXIV Discord server. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    According to emails I received at work there was, what our IT department described as, a "Worldwide IT Outage" affecting numerous services and causing fairly widespread issues. Possible it was a byproduct of that?

    The only impact I noted was that I was unable to access Reddit (kept getting error messages) and Facebook was uber-slow.

    Good morning! Thank you for posting in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Technical Support Forums.

    We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing with the “unexpected error” message. Based on the codes provided, this appears to be a DirectX 11 crash, which can happen when a graphics driver, overlay, or background process interferes with the game. Please try the following steps to help isolate the issue:

    - Update or reinstall graphics drivers (NVIDIA/AMD) using a clean install option.
    - Disable overlays such as Discord, Steam, NVIDIA, or AMD.
    - Run the game as Administrator and check “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations” in the file properties for ffxiv_dx11.exe.
    - Perform a clean boot: Open Task Manager → Startup tab → disable all non-Windows programs → restart the PC.
    - Verify Windows is fully updated (including optional updates).
    - If the game is installed on an HDD, try reinstalling on an SSD.

    If the issue continues, please provide a system report from the launcher and confirm:
    - GPU model and driver version
    - Whether the crash happens in Fullscreen, Borderless, or Windowed mode
    - Any other programs running while playing
