As well as being proud of their in-game house, it obviously had sentimental value too.

And as I said, they were interacting with it - interior included.
I mean, what's to assume?

That they are exceptionally impacted by a very peculiar circumstance and the computer decided to take their house away from them for no reason, and Squeenix hasn't made a public statement about it because they're trying to sweep it under the rug or....

They didn't walk into their house and forgot about it and now it's gone, and they are in fact looking for any excuse to quit because spending time at the house in FFXIV is hardly where even a fraction of time is spent even for home-lovers in this game.

One of these circumstances assumes that a computer has emotions and a company with a history of public apologies for these things has inexplicably decided to ignore it; while the other scenario assumes that some players forgot to walk into their house for too long.

Here's my assumption: They thought tenants walking in the door refreshed the timer. The homeowner wasn't walking into the house, but the tenant was. House got demolished. "Wah, but we were walking in the house".
