If you are standing in your garden and your house is set for demolition, a message will appear in the middle-bottom-ish for the screen to let you know. When you enter a house about to be demolished, it lets you know in the same way that the demolition has been stopped.

Two of my friends, who are a couple (in-game and IRL) had this happen to their house. They had both been visiting and interacting with their house but logged in after the patch update to find it gone.

They're both VERY strongly considering cancelling their subscriptions and never coming back.

If they're considering quitting then they were already tired of this game, and housing is just the cherry.

Also you must go into the interior, messing with the exterior wont reset the timer

Five minutes before maintenance I went to teleport back to my house before logging out and discovered that the option was gone. Immediately put in a ticket. Square got back to me within the hour to ask for details. Gave them what I knew and they responded exactly how I expected: “working as intended, sucks to suck, kick rocks”.

A bit confusing to me, because I swear by the old gods and the new that I have been in the house multiple times in the last 45 days. I’ve always made it a point, which is why I still fortunately have my FC’s house.

Oh well. I’m still a bit salty that I’ve lost my personal house that I’ve had for years that I sunk a lot of time and effort into. Initially I was malding pretty bad, considering unsubbing on the spot, but it’s whatever. I didn’t use the house that often and it’s far from the main reason I play anyway. I still enjoy the rest of game enough, and I might get lucky and win the plot back on the next lottery or a different plot some time in the future.

A LOT of assumptions in your reply. Their house was important to them. They met each other in-game and they built that house together. They later met, and eventually married, IRL.
As well as being proud of their in-game house, it obviously had sentimental value too.

And as I said, they were interacting with it - interior included.

Out of curiosity. Did they just told you they interacted or did you actually saw it yourself?
If so who was the owner cause a tenant wont reset the timer if it was private house.

In hindsight, having spoken them since, it does seem as if the 'tenant' was the only one interacting with it. Unfortunately.

So the primary owner didnt utilized his plot within 45 days and it got demo. If it holds so much sentimental value utilize it..

Hell I use mine as a RL dynamic Screensaver (50 inch.ps5). My signature is like one such pose ill leave the game on while doing other things irl. So I never bump into a demo timer because the houses will see some degree of use at least every few days.

    I mean, what's to assume?

That they are exceptionally impacted by a very peculiar circumstance and the computer decided to take their house away from them for no reason, and Squeenix hasn't made a public statement about it because they're trying to sweep it under the rug or....

They didn't walk into their house and forgot about it and now it's gone, and they are in fact looking for any excuse to quit because spending time at the house in FFXIV is hardly where even a fraction of time is spent even for home-lovers in this game.

One of these circumstances assumes that a computer has emotions and a company with a history of public apologies for these things has inexplicably decided to ignore it; while the other scenario assumes that some players forgot to walk into their house for too long.

Here's my assumption: They thought tenants walking in the door refreshed the timer. The homeowner wasn't walking into the house, but the tenant was. House got demolished. "Wah, but we were walking in the house".

I'd already acknowledged this a few posts before yours.
